Boycott France in WS??

I think the situation with France is more one of frustration. We EXPECT them to see this situation with Saddam the same as we do. That he is a danger to the world. He is just that.

We can argue till the cows come home on that point. He MUST be brought under control. It would be nice if our so called "friends" in Europe were willing to help in ridding the world of this maniac instead of delaying the action that has to be taken or trying to prevent it. I understand France has millions of dollars in contracts with Iraq. But it's beyond the point of money and contracts.

Saddam will be taken out of power one way or the other. With or without our "friends". But it is frustrating to see any country hinder the process. 12 years is more than enough time to abide by UN resolutions.

Boycott France WS? no . I have no problem with French citizens it's the French Government I disagree with.

i can understand that frustration. :(

i think it is sort of wierd though that americans would expect another country (especially with a completely different dependence on oil than we have) to agree with them when a significant number of other americans don't even agree with them.

I think most Americans understand what has to be done. I wish there was another way to do it other than a war. It would appear that after 12 years of non-compliance with the UN that Saddam thinks we are joking about his WMD. Noone that has any sense wants to see a war and the death and destruction that it will bring. On the other hand, Saddam has brought the same death and destrution on his own people. His ultimate goal is nuclear weapons and a means to deliver those anywhere in the world. He already had deadly chemical weapons.

Some have compared him to Hitler. I think that's a reasonable comparison. He's proven it over the years.

I think the whole situation boils down to if we want another "Hitler" running loose or do we take the force to stop him.

A peaceful solution is on the table for him to take. He won't take it. We have no choice.

we can agree to disagree, tony. i don't think comparing him to hitler is a valid comparison, but, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. :)

Whatever we choose to compare him to.....he has to be brought under control. That's really the only issue I think at this point.

PLUS those "eating establishments" we talked about..... ;)

Whew! A whole lot of emotion going on here. Perhaps this should have been started on the Debate Board.

What I see in most of this is that WDW is one thing and the world conflicts are quite another. Perhaps we can at least all agree on that?

I would have thought EROS would have a comment...

Well, I need to go take some aspirin.

Would I boycott France in WS? I would visit there and eat there, but I wouldn't buy in the products there that were made in France, but that's just me. I make a concerted effort to not buy any French products now, that is, if I know they are made in France.

I realize that it doesn't do any real good, that what little I would buy won't change any policy. But at least they won't be using my money to put forth those policies, and that is good enough for me.

I don't even want to imagine what it would be like if people in other countries would boycot McDonalds , Burger King , Pizza Hut , etc etc just because they are American. I'm shocked that some people still have that mentality and don't realize that by doing that they don't hurt anyone else but themselves.
Will I boycot any of the countries on the WS that do not agree with the USA? No, I would only be hurting our economy here and that's not my intention.

I'm sorry, but could you please explain to me how I'm hurting myself by not buying French products?

Someone near and dear to me sent this yesterday, a clipping from The New York Times Letter to the Editor:

To the Editor:

Re "An Order of Fries, Please, but Do Hold the French" (front page, March 12): A friend recently e-mailed me that friends of his were protesting French policy about war in Iraq by giving up drinking French wine. I asked him to tell them that I had given up Texas wines.

But I had to acknowledge that my sacrifice was not as onerous as theirs.

This pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter of boycotting France either in WS or in any other shape or form.

Besides, I love my brie! :sunny:

You will have to drink Poland Springs instead of Evian or Perrier!
:) :)
