Boycott Discovery Cove and Sea World?

On a more important note, does anyone know if Discovery Cove still offers unlimited AB beverages now that they've been sold off? We're going back again in Jan, and I can't tell from their web site.

:-(

IMO, Sea World educates and saves many animals that were injured in the wild. Do they also make money from this and entertain people??...yes. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Oh, and to the question do they still offer unlimited AB products?? We were at Discovery Cove in December and it is still unlimited AB products.

Sea World saved the animals from what? Their natural environment?

I really do not believe that the Anheuser Bush Company couldn't find any other place to save sea mammals than central Florida, far away from the real sea....

On the other hand what's educational about a dolphin or orca show?

Don't you think the only question remains is, if this form of entertainment can take care of the animals needs and if they are treated right?

We just watched a Jack Hanna program where Sea World San Diego rescues hundreds of injured and starving Sea Lions every year. They fatten up, fix them up and send back out there. I know that Orlando rescues Manatees and I am sure both rescue and save other sea life as well. On the program, they showed thew actual rescues and the facilities. Thes animals that were starving looked pretty receptive to the food when they got there.

I get that training sea animals to perform will not earn them any brownie points, but they do a lot of other activities that are good, so boycotting them would also do a lot of harm in the animal world, I am sure if profits fell it would not be the shows getting cut, it would be these other life saving programs.

I understand you concerns, truly, but look at the total picture. Lobbying for the show animals and coming up with ideas to make their enviroment more like the natural enviroment may be a more plausible action that could be attained with the right ideas and backing. Offering a plausible solution along with complaints will get more action then just trying to boycott as well. This company is not going to close shop on animal shows, so improving conditions seems like the best way for anyone to help. They get a lot of foreign vistors, so even getting a lot of americans to boycott them could put a small dent in their revenue, they can bounce back with more overseas advertising etc.. and focus on driving that business.

We took our grandbaby for her 10th birthday, she is 13 now still talk's about the day we spent at DCove, It was the best time she ever had, we had a GREAT time got such wonderful pictures.. we bought there disc they made of us. She will still watch it, her and her dolphine. But they will let you know if yous dolphine does not want to do any play time she or he does not have to.:surfweb:

Far away from the real sea? You are aware that SeaWorld Orlando is about 40 miles from the Atlantic and 60 from the Gulf of Mexico, right?

And they are particularly known for saving and rehabilitating Manatees in Florida that have been struck by boats. Most of the time, those manatees otherwise would die.

But if you're going to boycott SeaWorld, you'll also have to boycott Epcot and Animal Kingdom.

We live near Memphis, TN. A few years ago, a manatee managed to find it's way up the Mississippi River all the way to Memphis. At first the sightings weren't believed, but they finally got confirmation. Sea World came with people and equipment to try to save the manatee before the water temperatures dropped too low (this was sometime in the Fall). They were here for several days but couldn't locate the manatee (the body was found quite awhile later). SW put a lot of money and effort into trying to rescue the manatee.

14 month gap in responses, why dig up old threads? Did you dig up the 2 1/2 year old thread about orcas on the community board as well?:confused3

Sea World is a great educational venue and Animal Rescue organization. I say this respectfully but you can avocate for much better causes.

Familyoffive,

Maybe they were new members?

Which of course begs the question, why did you respond as well? ;)
