Boy Visits Iraq

Does anyone wonder if he was looking to join a terrorist group. It wouldn't be the first American to join.

Hassan's father, Redha Hassan, a medical doctor, told CNN that he had helped his son get a visa into Iraq from Beirut. The elder Hassan said he was leaving Iraq himself when the teen called, unable to get into the country from Kuwait. He told him to go to Lebanon and said he spoke with him almost daily. (Route)

When asked why he helped, Hassan said his son had come so far by the time he called that he couldn't see not helping him.

Redha Hassan and Atiya, who lives in Tampa, are divorced. Farris spends most of his time in Fort Lauderdale, where his father lives.

Ok, now it all begins to make sense.
I knew there had to be more to it.
And that father better be billed for every nickel our country spent!!

that story is just ridiculous. As my teen told me, geeze Mom you got pissed when I went to the mall with Kristen without asking first. :rotfl2:

That kid had been out of his parents house since Dec 11th - first Kuwait, then with family friends in Beruit and then into Iraq. Now all the sudden once the family's name hits CNN around December 28th, the family starts talking about how worried they are and the "punishments" they are considering once he gets home.

Give me a break. If you were all that worried, I would think Dr. and Mrs. bought their son a $50k sports car for his 16th birthday would have had their son home by about December 15th at the latest.

And oh, yeah - she's taking away his passport.

yeah, and she told him he couldn't go out with his friends the night after he got home too! Wow mean Mom!!!! :rolleyes1

strikes me as a case of parents "helping" jr. get something that sets him apart on those college and career applications :guilty: wonder if the parents (if proven to have assisted in this stupidity) could be billed for all of the time and energy all the applicable agencies redirected from those truly in need.
(they could just pay it out of the dateline, primetime live...and book deals they probably had negotiatied before he ever returned to u.s. soil).
That's exactly what I thought too.

Stupid, cocky, kid is very lucky to be alive. And if he were my son, he'd be even luckier to survive the punishment that DH and I would impose on him!!

Not having read all of the post, so this might be already know.

On the radio today they said his father helped him get to Lebanon. The parents are divorces. The father got him the passport.
