My dh and ds our out at my ds's indoor baseball game and I am stuck in my room, like a prisioner, although I do go downstairs to do the laundry.

My dd-17, invited over 7 friends for a Christmas Dinner, which she organized.
She had a "Dress Code" LOL, they all came in dresses, skirts and VERY high heels :goodvibes, and they all made a "dish" to bring with them (ie., pasta, meatballs, salad, etc.).
My dd and I made the table up last night in the dining room and she asked to use the good china :thumbsup2
What is really nice is they said they said it will be their new tradition and even when they are all away in college, they will still be coming home each year and can still meet for their dinner.

Anyway, here I am on the dis and there are 8 16/17 year old gilrs downstairs having a feast LOL
Merry Christmas!!!

That sounds like a great time! I used to love getting all dressed up but then I'd get tired of the shoes and end up barefoot by the end of the night.

That's so nice!
Last year, I suggested it and my dd just dismissed me but the other day she asked if they could all come over so she must of listened, even a little.

Well, they needed me :goodvibes but it was just for a group picture
I did notice that my dd had to put her shoes back on so they must be off LOL

BUT, the best part was when I was walking up the stairs, someone said, ok, where is the cell phone box!!! It seems like they must have something down there where they are all putting their phones. From what I can hear, they are not allowed to have their phones in the dining room!!!
For 8 16 and 17 year old girls that LIVE on their phones, I was VERY VERY happy to hear this :thumbsup2

All the food is cold, the pasta has been sitting for about an hour as well as the other hot dishes but when I asked my dd if she wanted me to help her heat everything up she said she would do it since she wanted it to be her party. Luckily she takes after my dh, not me regarding the cooking. I already have a thread going on artichokes for dummies on this board :rotfl2:

Aww! I hope they take lots of pics so they can remember the night.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. That is very nice of you. I am following YOUR thread and SOO happy your dd is home and will be back to doctors next week. Is their your first grandchild?
Boy, the time sure goes fast doesn't it? I remember my dd being so little and I was God. She was always very independent and mature but I didn't realize how quickly the years fly by :confused3 I read somewhere once that when they are little, the days go by so slowly but the years go by so quickly..so true!

I'll keep all updated, since there is not much more I can do anyway LOL
I'm doing laundry so it does give me an excuse to go downstairs and just see what is going on, even if it is quickly.

Please all, though, say a little prayer for me that my china stays ok and nothing gets broken!!!

Awwww....that is so sweet to hear.:goodvibes

Thanks. I'm so happy they get to relax and enjoy themselves. They all go to the same school and none of them knew each other when they started.
It is a very demanding college prep school in New York and the girls work VERY hard with hours of studying and school work each night, in addition to volunteering, sports, etc. They had off this week and next and so happy
they have a bond that hopefully will last them throughout adulthood.

They all just said a loud Merry Christmas and they are all talking at once and it is SOOO nice to hear! It is making me teary, although it is that time of the month for me..sorry, TMI :lmao:

My girlfriends and I (7 of us altogether) did this the year after we graduated from high school.
This year will be our 20th Christmas party, our first was in 1990-except now we do it in January to make it easier for everyone to make it and we invite all husbands and kids too. Great tradition!:thumbsup2

WOW!!! That is wonderful! I am goign to tell my dd this later tonight or tomorrow.
That is great and wonderful to hear!

I love playing hostess... that's awesome that you daughter has decided that she does, too :thumbsup2

She should go out after Christmas and see if anyone has Christmas dishes on sale for next year.

That's sweet.
Thanks. I think so too.

My dh and son are both home and my dh and I are up here and my ds is downstairs in the family room on vidoe games but I will let him stay there.

I rather her here making a mess and me sitting in my room than her out at someone elses home so this is the price I will pay LOL

Good idea! I will certainly look for Christmas Dishes after Christmas.
I hear movement downstairs. I told them to put the stuff in the sink and I'll take care of the dishwaher. They all brought a change of clothes since they will watch a movie someone came over with (or they are renting from cable) not sure. LOL

How fun!! Those are memories she will cherish.

I just got together last week with some of my closest girl friends from school....we have known each other since junior high and still keep in touch. We visited for hours and hours and I laughed until my sides ached. :rotfl: It sounds like your daughter is starting a cool tradition! :thumbsup2

I get together every Wednesday night with a friend from high school. It's my one night out a week. We laugh that we got old because in high school, we used to hit up every club and do lots of things that I pray my daughter won't do and now we'd rather go to a restaurant, have some drinks with our food but not deal with drunken idiots and then get home in time to catch Criminal Minds.
This is the same friend who I always skipped class with. We HATED school, so it didn't take much to convince either of us to skip. She'd call and be like I have a headache so I'd tell her okay, I'll be at your house with Tylenol and movies. Now she is a high school math teacher. And she has an AMAZING shoe closet! Yes. One closet just for shoes. Then she has two other walk in closets. One for warm weather, one for cold weather. so jealous.
Hope your daughter can still find things to talk about with her friends when they are 30 =)

That is adorable. I think that you have done something very right with your daughter. She sounds like she is going to become a great adult. It is wonderful that you allow her freedom to be creative and to use your good china. Good job Mom!

They were having so much fun last night! The never stopped talking or laughing, even when they were watching the movie. I said to my dh can you believe they have a movie on. They just talked and laughed and laughed. The last 2 girls left about 11:15 pm, I figured they would be here later but it was a nice night. They all seemed to have a great time. My dd told me today they all had a blast and want to do again next year. The pictures on FB looked nice.

That is great you still get together with your friend for dinner and drinks. Funny how we use to all be so cool (or think we were), what happened :rotfl2:

If you knew me, you would know letting my dd use the china is a big step for me  I run a tight ship so wouldn't use freedom to freely in my house but definately the ONE thing I never mind is if she wants to hang out here, have kids over in the house or hang out in the yard in the summer, I ALWAYS say yes. My motto is I rather here knowing what is going on than someone else's home so I was happy when she basically told me she was having dinner at our house, it was kind of an asking me but I knew she already knew our house would be fine.
Have a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year and thank you for the kind words. I appreciate it.
