My mom has decided she must learn the computer (a true statement) and that the *only* way she's going to be able to learn it is with some kind of tutorial like the "Video Professor" is supposed to be. So, I just ordered the supposed "free CD plus shipping and handling" for her on Windows.

Man, talk about a sales pitch! I had to decline at least 6 *other* offers, and accept 1 other that would actually benefit her, *and* we have to send 2 things back as soon as they come in so we aren't charged another $100! The end result is a good deal for her and will be helpful, but sheesh!

If she weren't so set on the only way she'd be able to learn is with Video Professor, I'd find another option. But, we've tried personal instruction, books, videos, HTML tutorials, and classes, and none of them have worked for her. :p

So just a warning to those thinking about buying Video Professor. Be ready to have your ear talked off with sales pitches. :p Also, DO NOT order from their so-called secure website. When I went to it, they ask you to enter your CC information BEFORE the site is secure. Unless they know some trick DH and I don't, their site is not as secure as it seems.

I used them twice with no problems, Tammi. Just make sure you get a confirm number and get it back in time. I actually used Delivery Confirmation to make SURE they got it so I wouldn't be charged.

Otherwise, the cds are really informative and easy to use. I hope they help your Mom.

God bless,

Robinrs

I'm wishing your mom a lot of luck with this Tammi. :)

I know this man. He lives here in Arizona. His name is John. He's quite the player too! (he's much older in real life than those commercials!!!!)

Hope they work well for your mother! I've heard (not from him) but others that they work well!

Yeah, I've heard nothing but good reviews of the CDs themselves. That's why it's worth the hassle. It's just quite a hassle to get.

Thanks for the tip on delivery confirmation, Robin! I wouldn't have thought of that.

My sister has taught most of my aunts to use a computer at various levels. One of them has made quite a business at ebay. Something she said that was interesting is that the first thing she teachs is solitaire. It is something they are familiar with and it gets them used to using the mouse.

She also takes it very slow, only introducing something new after they are very comfortable with the previous step. It is also task specific so she's teaching them how to do the things they want a computer for.

If she wasn't so busy doing other things she'd probably make a business out of it. Too bad she's not in Houston or I'd suggest she help you out.

Thing is, Janette, my mom knows more than she gives herself credit for. But she's comparing herself to my dad, DH, and me, all of whom WORK in/with computers in depth every day.

I'm hoping these will work with her. I don't have the patience to teach her, I've tried. :(
