Boxing Day

Boxing Day used to be like your Black Friday. Everyone up early and many long lines. Now the sales start before and go a week after when it used to be the one day.

Don’t think many will be out today though. I know I won’t be.

Yep. I used to think of Boxing Day as the day people punched each other out as they shopped to grab the half price merchandise. Lol.

I look back at the days of lining up in the cold at 5am outside Future Shop to get a deal on electronics and wonder... what the heck were we thinking?

Our pre-COVID tradition of late was to go to Yorkdale Mall in Toronto (because of the free underground parking) around 8am, get some deals, walk around and be out of there by around 10:30. I still did online shopping, mind you - but I do more of it now.

Oh the Furture shop ! Yes.

Yorkdale is always crazy and no parking to be found without Christmas . Now we drive by and can’t believe the spots we see. Sad. Wonder how the malls faired today?

DH didn't want to do 2 returns this morning because Boxing Day use to be crazy. I told DH it's been dead on Boxing Day for at least 5 years now because Christmas decor is always sold out way before Christmas. There's hardly any clearance deals and other deals to be had.

Stores never took returns on Boxing Day or sometimes even the whole week because it was too busy and wanted to sell more.

Heard our malls were busy,
Electronic stores did have a line up according to news reports.
I never went out so no idea how busy.

I, too, thought it was somehow associated with the sport boxing. WHY other countries would want to celebrate it was beyond me, but, hey, strange foreigners with strange customs. ;)

My father once said something along the lines of "it's the day parents get to legally beat up on their kids if they misbehave after Santa has departed."
