I've seen several pictures of DCL at Castaway Cay and some show the Bow facing the island while others show it facing away. I was on the Wonder awhile ago and we backed in to Castaway Cay so that our Bow faced away from the island. We did the same in Nassau. Both times with the way the ship docked we disembarked on the Port side. However, you embark/disembark at Canaveral on the Starboard side. It may sound irrelevant but we rather enjoyed looking out our verandah at the ports and seeing the Dockside activity and rebooked our room on the Port side based on this experience.
Does the ship ever alternate docking sides at port?

The ships DO alternate docking sides at Castaway Cay. Part of the reason for this has to do with the condition of the sea but another consideration has to do with maintenance of the ship. At Castaway Cay they have a large lift used to elevate workers up the sides of the ship so that they may clean, paint, etc. At times they will need to perform work on various sides and thus they will have to alternate docking sides.

As far as the other ports, I would think that they tend to remain relatively steady.

We've been on 33 Disney cruises, and the vast majority have had the ship docking "aft first" at Castaway Cay. Hubby likes that because when we're in our favorite stateroom (5650, on the starboard side), he likes the view of the beach and ocean from that side. I can't even remember the last time that we pulled in rather than backed in!

Well, I can't boast 33 cruises, although that would be nice, :D but I can say that on our last cruise, in May, we did indeed pull in forward.
