Okay, I was in the mood for a movie this afternoon. I'd been wanting to see Minority Report but the showtimes weren't in my favor. Bourne Identity wasn't high on my list of "must see movies," but it got really good reviews in the local paper, so I decided to give it a try.
I was greatly surprised. Bourne Identity was a very good, very well made, and very entertaining thriller. Quickie synopsis -- Matt Damon plays a man found floating in the Mediterranean by a fishing boat who has amnesia, goes searching for his real identity, and discovers a lot of intrigue and people shooting at him.
I was a bit skeptical of the concept of Matt Damon as action hero. I thought he pulled off the role very well. The rest of the faces were of the "seen them before but don't remember where and don't know the name" variety but all very well cast.
I haven't read the novel the movie adapted, so I can't say how faithful it is. I believe there were sequels written so there is definitely room for a sequel movie. The feel and atmosphere of the movie reminded me of "The Saint" with Val Kilmer a few years ago. Maybe that's because both of them were filmed on location in Europe.
Overall, I recommend the movie. I wasn't disappointed and don't think anyone else who likes action thrillers will either.
