Can someone tell me what is the suitable dress attire for the casual dinner nights? I know there has been much lively discussion around the formal/semi-formal dinners, but wasn't sure if pants (slacks) and collared shirts were required for the informal dinners. Are jeans or dress shorts acceptable? I assume more leeway is given to children.

Thanks so much!

As much as I hate to say this (because I like to get dressed to eat dinner on a cruise. It makes me think of the old cruising days when dinner was an event to be shared with others not just another meal) DCL WILL NOT KICK YOU OUT IF YOU DRESS DOWN! I have seen many families come in very informal and they are treated as if they were in the finest attire. Someone might say something if you come in wearing "grubbies" or a swim suit but that is it. Cruise casual covers a lot of ground. :flower3:

You are on vacation and should not have to worry over these thngs. Just because I choose to dress up does not mean I am right and anyone who chooses not to is wrong. :grouphug: Be yourself .... have fun! It is the "trip of a lifetime" ... enjoy it!

The DCL web site says, "You are requested to not wear tank tops, swim wear or shorts at dinner." There was talk of DCL changing this to request no jeans as well, but I couldn't find that. I certainly don't care what you wear, as long as you are happy with it and it works for your family. I figure I am doing well if my DS wears button pants 1/4 of the time. He hates them and likes to wear sweatpants all the time. <g>

We leave for MCO in 16 DAYS!!! I am so excited I could burst!! And my suitcases are already beginning to burst. Hmmm.... maybe I am bringing too much?

Does anyone know the proper amount to tip if you are doing a private tour in the Med? Would it be 20% like we might in the US? Or a different amount? I know that tipping is subjective , but I was just looking for some firsthand advice from those of you that have experienced this prior. I just want to make sure that I have compensated everyone correctly and that no one feels slighted. I tend to tip high - but the tours are already fairly expensive. This doesnt mean I'm going to be cheap , I just want it to be an amount that everyone is happy with!:)

TIA

I agree :flower3: I personally plan to dress up even on the cruise casual nights just because it's something I never get to do at home but it's not going to bother me if someone else isn't dressed up.

I love it! I love reading people's trip blogs!

We got an upgrade!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

We are upgraded to a cat 9 and we have now the same stateroom B2B!!!

I'll make sure that i put the new # into the google spreadsheet.

So lucky! I am in 2 different rooms, but I am happy enough with them to stay where I am! And thanks to great friends that will let me keep my bags in their room for those few transition hours.

Congratulations!

I set up a blog so I can keep in touch with my mom while on the cruise. I plan to put something on it daily. I've never done one before though so I hope I can keep it interesting to read :rotfl:

The address is www.heathersebta.blogspot.com

Yay another one!

I got my cruise docs! I'm so dumb; I'm looking at the luggage tags and they have bar codes, and the number 0585 on each. So I think, "Wow!!! We got upgraded AGAIN!" and immediately pull out the deck plans to see what category of room we're in now...I expect you already figured out that if 0585 were a room number we'd be down with the crew on "0" deck....Oh well.

Would someone be willing to share what precipitated Steven Long's departure from this board?

Have a great day,
Ann

Thanks for the update...I'm having a problem starting to pack since we are wearing the clothes that I would pack for the trip. :laundy:

Me too! In fact I haven't packed anything, but I have planned some packing in my head - thinking of what I'll bring.

I think shorts are out but people do wear jeans. You'll see me mostly in capris, khaki pants or a skirt - it's just my typical cruise wear & I find capris more comfy than jeans. My husband will be in slacks & a buttondown or jeans & a polo.

Has anyone that has been on a crossing before, seen whales, dolphins or other sealife? We are so excited to be leaving in a few weeks.:banana::banana:

Thanks for all the helpful feedback everyone! Can't wait to get on that ship, get away from work and RELAX. popcorn::

Spinks1800 and edith75:

I'm making name tags/lanyards for you and your families. We'll have them waiting for you in the Cruise Terminal or the 3:00 Meet & Greet.

If you need to find information, you may never make it all the way through these posts (they move too quickly) - so ask away.

About the onboard self-service laundry, does anyone know how much it costs to purchase the single-load (I assume) detergent on board? Am I better off (i.e. saving $) buying before hand and bringing with me?

Thanks so much!

Tide $1
Downy $1
Wash load $2
Dry load $2

I've told my niece that I expect her to wear a dress to dinner every night. She said, "Every night?" Well, every night that we go to the dining room.

This is because she finds dresses she likes and I buy them and then never see her wearing them. I want some return on my (my dad's) money. I think she mainly wears jeans to church, too. She doesn't seem to be putting up any resistance to my request, though. It's also a good way to get me into something nicer than jeans or shorts. I've resorted to a very casual lifestyle and actually am looking forward to dinner - not just eating - with others.

Sadly, putting on a dress lets me know that the scale and my clothes are broken - it keeps going up and they get tighter. :sad2:

So, if I haven't bought you clothes, as long as you've got the vital body parts covered, I don't care. :goodvibes

I didn't get that but I did get one from Castaway Club thanking me for taking a cruise with Disney and hoped to see me on another cruise. Mind you, my last cruise was in SEPTEMBER. :rotfl:

Kristi

yep got one for the October cruise we went on

I seem to remember someone mentioning a certain wine they liked. Was the name - Rosa Regala or something like that?

Is so, I found some at World Market last week.

Kristi

Oh I love Rosa Regala - which reminds me - I need to call and order our baskets from Shirely - I want her to put a bottle in it!

Congrats of the weight! I also haven't gotten anything new for the trip except a few items for the kids.

I saw a few posts ago that you home school. How can you do all that and do all that you do for the trip :worship:

Thanks! - Yes we do home school and actually I just weave everything in together and since my kids are 12 and 15 they can help with different things. I make friends tired on facebook sometimes when I recap my day - they say it makes them tired just to read it :)

Last night (well early this morning) I was able to put my mail on hold! Hubby gets home one week from tommorow.

I will put this out there again since we have lots of new people:

We would still like to have some tablemates for dinner or if you do not want to sit at a table with us - how about in the same area :confused3

We are - Me (Krisann) and DH (Ashley) and DD 15 and DS 12 who turns 13 on cruise.

We are on early seating (I know many of you are on late seating) and if you do not want to link with us - we have requested to have our server from our WBPC 2008 cruise and you could request him also to be in our "area" - his name is Agus from Indonesia.

Oh yeah and I have references from past tablemates for both us and our server :)

Please don't let my kids scare you - they leave early most nights to go do "fun" stuff :)

Krisann

Regarding QOTD:

We'll probably get off around 9 and back on around 2. Depends on the sun. If there is a a lot we'll probably be out for a lot less. If it's cooler, we can stay out longer.

I'll be the one with a spf 70, a hat, a cover-up, and a towel over my legs. Not because I'm embarrassed to be in a swimsuit, but because I'm trying to avoid too much sun. I'll go out for a swim and come back and cover up.

Regarding cruise casual:
I will wear black slacks or capris and a nice top each night. Since I work in a lab, I wear jeans almost every day because when I wear nice clothes I ruin them with this oily stuff we use. And I wear a smock, so it' not like anyone gets to see what shirt I'm wearing. So it's nice to dress up a bit. Besides jeans are heavy to bring. While I love to dress up, I really don't care what others wear. I can't imagine anyone wearing a swimsuit to dinner, but you know someone must have tried or they wouldn't have a rule about it. I did see someone on another cruiseline in ripped jeans and flannel dancing on formal night amongst people in tuxes and gowns. I did think "Come on you couldn't at least find a pair of jeans that didn't have 20 holes in them?", but it was more amusing than annoying.
