Can you switch resorts after you make a partial payment? I’m pretty sure the answer is yes but wanted to confirm.

You should be able to as long as the resort has availability under the BB rate. They will cancel and refund your payment and you will make a new deposit for the new resort reservation. They won’t transfer the partial payment.

That was not my experience. I changed a BB reservation from a moderate resort to a deluxe online. The deposit was transferred to the applied & only the additional amount due was charged to my credit card when I made the change. The payment was not refunded & recharged.

I moved room categories at a deluxe resort under the BB offer and my experience was similar to focusondisney’s. My deposit was transferred over and my credit card was just charged the price difference in the rooms. This was for a room-only reservation.

To clarify: The only time that they have to refund your deposit and you have to re-pay the deposit is if you are trying to change a room-only reservation to a package reservation (actual package or ticketless package) or changing from a package reservation to a room-only reservation. That is because they are 2 different systems with 2 different cancellation and change policies. If you are changing a package to a package or a room only to a room only, you will not need to have your current option cancelled and re-booked.

Hmm, I wonder why they didn’t do that when I changed resorts. I changed mine from the CR to the WL when additional availability opened up. They canceled my CR reservation and rebooked for the WL. I had to pay the $200 deposit again and my original $200 was refunded back to my card. Maybe because it was a BB rooms only package instead of a just a BB room reservation?

Just posted the same thoughts! That is exactly what I did!

Are you sure you had a package and were changing to a different package? Could your first or second reservation have been booked as a "room only"?

We are most likely changing a package to another package and it’s for Nov. I paid the $200 deposit on 2 rooms ($400 total). I think I was told that there would be no fee even if I switched to a cheaper package unless it’s within 30 days.

Both were the room only package ($200 deposit). I probably got a CM who made it easier on themselves by just cancelling and rebooking instead of transferring the deposit! I really didn't care, I just wanted to make sure I got the BB offer when I called back to change the resort.

That’s probably what happened. If you were outside the 7 days, I’m surprised a CM cancelled & rebooked it. I’ve always been told there’s no way they can rebook anything if outside the eligibility (7 day) period. Last time I had to call to book, I wanted a room only. The CM informed me twice that it could not be rebooked after the 7 days, so if I decided I wanted a package instead I had to do it within that timeframe.
