Bounceback Booking Question

I'm confused, been misled, or just plain unlucky. Aren't bouncebacks just for within the calendar year of your stay? I know I've read the info and gotten discouraged, and another time read the info and actually called--only to be told the offer was only good until December of that year.

Now, I have a trip in July 2018. I already know I want to book a trip for February 2019--should I try for a bounceback when I'm there this summer? Is it possible to book beyond the calendar year?

Unfortunately if you travel in July, the bb is a room discount only bookable for dates til December 2018.

Thanks! I hoped it was something like this, and just plain bad timing rather than me not "getting it." I've got an idea, though. When I travel in Feb 2019, I can book my mother's birthday trip for summer 2019, can't I? Especially since I want to make it special, and book the Boardwalk.

Yes! :) As long as the bb's follow the same timelines as the past few years.

It is great that they are finally letting you do this. In the past, as recently as Sept 2016, they didn’t do that. My DH & I were there in Sept 2016 & booked a bounceback for Dec 2017 (free dining). There was one room for us & 1 room for my DS & DDIL. We had to book one room on my name with DDIL in with me. Then 1 room for DH with DS in with him. It was all kinds of annoying trying to plan & make fastpasses etc.

Then at check in, the CM had to go into the office & get help to move everyone into the right rooms. It took forever & the dining plans got screwed up, so spent more time getting that fixed. We had to do the same thing years before when we went with our DD & SIL. But that was before FP & they moved everyone with less issues back then. I think I read they changed it late in 2016, after we had booked ours. Probably to free up CMs from spending forever fixing room occupants at check in.

Mine was August 2016... so it is definitely a YMMV. If someone is trying to do this and is told no, I would say “Nevermind,” hang up, and try again.

So, have we determined that I can book a room under someone else's name for the bounceback? Because I'm thinking having to blend the two families on a reservation would be kind of a nightmare.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It all depends on who you get on the other end of the phone. But, apparently you should be able to. So if you're told no, I would do what @CarrieR suggested and say "nevermind" and call back hoping to get a different CM.

So it's just like everything else at Disney! Haha...thanks!

We were able to book a bounce back in my sister’s name when we were there in December. It took a while and the CM had to talk to her manager about it but 45 minutes later my sister had a reservation in her name. I had to put a deposit down for her and she paid me back later.

The option to book three rooms for guests in their name has been available since at least last October. I guess Disney finally realized that the option to book three rooms was something people wanted. :)

I did this successfully last October. I learned from the agent that the dedicated bounceback agents are aware of the (relatively new) policy, but the general line agents are not, at least they weren't at that time. During busy times your call could roll over to the regular line. That's why some agents know the policy while others do not. If you want to do this I'd recommend calling in the morning from your room when the phone lines first open (I think 8am?) for your best change of getting a dedicated bounceback agent. As long as one person from the existing reservation is lead guest for one of the rooms, the second room can be in anyone's name.

When we've done this in the past, we had to put one room in my name and the other in my wife's name. I have been told every time that only guests currently on the reservation can book a bounceback.
This has been our experience as well. It's not a huge deal, just swap magic bands once you're there, but I believe you'll technically have to have your DH name on the other reservation.

Sorry this is a few days old but I am just confirming you visited in December and we’re able to book a bounceback? That would take you to next calendar year, correct? I thought they only let you book for current calendar year but I am hoping that make an exception for December visitors

Typically the bb's available between mid August to December are for dates into the next calendar year.

Okay thank you! We are going December 2018 and November 2019 and we’re wondering if we can book our Nov 2019 trip as a bounceback
There should be a bounce back offer for dates in 2019 when you are there in December. The room only discount BB offer usually comes out in the middle of October and is good for the next year. If you don't see the offer in the booklet that should be in the desk in your resort room then call extension 8844 from your room phone before you check out.

ETA: the 2018 room only bounce back offer did not include any dates in October or November. So you might want to keep that in mind when planning your 2019 trip.
