We’ve been owners since 2015 — and have been waiting to stay at Boulder Ridge since then. But I could never justify it with the looks of the previously outdated rooms. This we were thrilled to hear of the refresh, and loved watching Paul and Amy’s studio review from March.
We booked a room afterwards and tonight is our first time staying at BRV in a studio. Thrilled to finally get here.
Though… I must note a few things. Some budget cut things, I presume.
First off…. Only two usb ports?
We are currently closer to 2024 than we are to the start of 2023. And this room (I kid you not) has only two usb ports. Sleeps five. Has two USB ports. ***. And only one is USB A (which id argue is still currently more popular).
2/ only one nightstand
This is a strange one. We’re in a studio. Lock off. Same exact setup as the video Paul and Amy did in March 2023. Their video clearly shows two nightstands. Our room only has 1. Mind blowing. Did they cut this out of future remodels halfway though?
Not only would it double the usb Ports in the room (but it still wouldn’t be enough for each person to have 1). But there’s also enough space for one.
I am a CPAP user and need a nightstand. My wife prefers to sleep facing the kids on the Murphy bed. So I had to use one of the strange stools as a makeshift nightstand. Kind of crazy. And I don’t understand why there’s no consistency between the studios.
UPDATE/ I spoke to a manager at the front desk, showed him the video and they brought a nighstand. So yes. It does fit. (Bet that’s the first time he’s had this ask…) but thanks to the Krieger’s video for help with this one.
3/ no ceiling fan
Even the some of the moderates have ceiling fans. I’ve never stayed in a DVC room without it. Why cut that out? #Chapek
4/ no light in the 5th sleeper
Yes I know. It’s a little thing. But that’s what Disney is/was all about: the little things. LED strips are a dime a dozen. It was hard to read a bedtime story to our little one without the light we’re accustomed to having in the 5th sleeper (looking at you, Riviera)
5/ what is that light over the TV?
Don’t get me wrong: I’m in the minority perhaps and have been loving the refurb rooms. Saratoga is by far our favorite refurb so far. We love the brightness of the room and the light walls. But this light - it looks like it came out of the Rosebud Motel (Schitt’s Creek reference.) I’m surprised it doesn’t flicker and hum when you turn it on. Woof.
6/ not one single hook in the whole room.
Again, a little thing. But again. Disney is/was about the little things. Saratoga, Riviera, Vero, etc all have hooks by the entry door. We were thankful to have a place to hang masks during the pandemic — and generally like having a spot to hang odds and ends. Again, just screams #chapek to me.
Mostly just a first world problem rant from a “privileged” DVC member. But come on Disney: you can do better. a+ for styling. f for functionality and cheapness.
I still can’t get over only two USB ports. A room for 5… and two USB ports. Unbelievable.
And yes, of course I travel with backups. But the Disney ones sure are perfect for charging our Magicband+ overnight. We should at lease have 5 ports to plug them in like I do at the Pop. Funny how this #chapek era room can’t even charge a magicband+ for each guest. Ironic that the magicband+ is another Chapek-era money grab, too.
And no, they are not built in to any wall outlet. I checked high and low.
