Bought through resale, when can I start booking?

I just got my closing documents and will be sending the final payment tomorrow. I thought I read somewhere that you can start booking even before your final paperwork comes back from Disney. That they can look up your account somehow. How will I know when I can start booking? And what would I have to do?

With a resale purchase, you will be able to make reservations once the sale has closed and the information entered into the DVC system - usually about a week after closing. You should be able to access MS soon! :)

With a direct purchase, you may make reservations as soon as a deposit has been made since you will be in the system immediately. You would not need to wait until closing.

Enjoy! :)

With resale, you cannot book until after closing and even then it takes a few days to a week thereafter for Disney to get you in its system before you can book. Real Estate agent should let you know when process is complete and how to get member number so you can book. Those who buy from Disney can book right after purchasing and before closing.

With resale, the account setup seems to be a two-step process. First they put your account "in the computer," then they add the points in. Often those two steps occur on consecutive business days. So if you call MS on a Friday, they may be able to see your account but the points may not be in the account until Monday or Tuesday. The points have to be in the account before you can make reservations.

There are two additional steps that you'll go through. One is getting your login for the DVC Member site. You'll get an email from MS about that.

The other step is receiving your DVC member card. That will come in the mail, and often takes several weeks. Not having the card is no big deal, because you'll have your account number. The only thing you'll use the card for is discounts while you're actually at WDW.

Good luck, and Welcome Home!

We closed one week after we received the closing documents. Our points were in the system one week after we closed. Luckily our seller sent their closing documents back right away. A seller who is not as quick could delay closing even if your papers and check have been received.

That's exactly what happened to us. We passed ROFR on 8/17..... closing documents faxed and money wired to *** on 8/18. Seller snail mailed everything and we couldn't close until 8/25.

We were in the DVC system 0n 8/31 but no points listed until 9/3.

Good luck.... you are almost there. :cool1: I hope this helps. popcorn::

After we bought our resale contract, I waited a few days then started bothering the bejesus out of MS. (We are going to WDW in a few days and when I got these points back in June, rooms were going fast!) I called at least once or twice a day until one of the representatives finally said "I have your contract in my stack, I'll put it in right now." That loaded the membership and by the next morning my points were there. :cool1:

Ok great! Thanks for all of the info! My luck is I'll probably be in WDW when my memership is complete...lol. But I wasn't planning on using anything for this trip. I just wanted to see about booking our next one.

Once, it took 5 days from the day the Title Co. received my final check, to show up in the DVC system. The second time I bought resale, it took about 2 weeks. I just called MS every day, gave them my SSN, name, etc. and they looked it all up. They said, "Resale can take a little longer to get in the system. Check back in a week." Well, I didn't wait a week. I just called daily. BTW, we had leftover '09 points on the contract which didn't show up on the MS info. until a few days after the current year's points. Those '09 points have to go through another data entry process and take a little longer, so don't be nervous if you find yourself wondering where ALL your points are.

BTW, I have a feeling the Title Co. for the 2 week episode was just working slowly. When I asked why it would take so long, they replied, "your contract, the one you signed, stated we have until 9/30 to close." At that point, it was the first week of Sept. I very nicely indicated I'd like to close much sooner, as I have a waitlist pending that could use those extra points. I emailed my sales rep every other day and called the title company a couple times. I think they just put it through. Otherwise, I had a feeling they were going to wait on it for a while, since I signed something that stated final closing could take place one month after I submitted my check.

My points were in my account in exactly 1 week. They were entered incorrectly. We purchased 160 point contract which it did show in the system but it said 150 2009 banked points, 150 - 2010 currently available, 150 -2011. Called MS and they said I had to call resale agent/closing agent because the contract might have been only 150 points to begin with, which I knew was not correct. TTS had it straightened out in less then 5 minutes by contacting their "dvc" contact. Later that day all was correct.
