As of today we are brand new DVC members, with our Animal Kingdom Villas as our home resort! Before we made the decision that DVC was for us, we had already booked a one bedroom villa at OKW for 4/27-5/4/12 and we were very excited about that, but when our rep asked us how we wanted to use our new points for our upcoming trip we had some thinking to do.

We fully intended on staying at our new "home", but my husband convinced me to ask about BLT 1 BR Villa just in case. It is our three year old's first trip and we know we will be at the MK a lot, plus we have two ADRs at Polynesian and three at Epcot, so it would be very convenient.

Well, she called back and we are booked for seven nights in a one bedroom lake view villa at BLT! Looks like AKV will wait until our next trip...but in the meantime we are BLT bound!

If anyone has any advice on room requests for lake view, I will take them! I know we want a high floor, but what else is good?

(Ooops, guess I posted that in the wrong place in the midst of my excitement...total newbie move!)

Congrats on your dvc purchase! We just passed rofr today & will close in a few weeks! Can't wait to make our first reservations! I have never stayed at blt so i don't have any advice...but we absolutely love akl! And welcome home!

If you request an "even" number room, you will most likely have a view of the Magic kingdom. These units are on the end of the building and are still considered Lake View. The living rooms in the even number rooms are larger than the odd number rooms too. This is because you are on the outside of the curvature "C" shape of the building which bows outwards. Instead of having parallel shape walls in the living room, you will have this / \ shape which gives more square footage. I'm not sure if you have been reading reviews of BLT but expect the possibility of having a room with major signs of wear and tear. The furnishings in BLT were done on the "cheap" and you may experience a severely scratched up dining room table, ripped furniture, stained carpet, a dripping overhead shower head in the master bathroom, etc. Regardless, I am sure you will have a fabulous trip and enjoy the location to the Magic Kingdom. We have a one year old and a four year old and this is our favorite resort.

Thanks! Congrats to you too! I was very excited to take my kids to AKL, but I suppose I will get there soon enough! Welcome home to you too!

Thank you for the advice, that is exactly what I was looking for as far as room placement. I haven't been reading many reviews about BLT yet since we just got the reservation, but I will keep that in mind about the wear and tear. The location was the biggest draw for us on this particular trip, but next time I'm sure we will go to our home resort. I guess we have lots of time to try out as many different places as we want now! :)

"Even" # rooms at BLT can either have a partial view of the MK, or no view of the MK. We have stayed in one of each. The even number villas on the north end of the building can see Bay Lake and part of the MK. The even number villas on the south side of the building can see the monorail, the Contemporary, the lake, and the Contemporary pool/marina. The even number villa on the south end of the building ended up being our favorite - we loved the view of the marina and lake, especially at night.

Thank you everyone! We are very excited about DVC. In addition to lots of WDW in my future, I might actually get my DH to take me to Hawaii someday now too!

Thanks for the advice. It isn't terribly important to us to see the MK, so I do think I would like the south side as well. Hopefully we can get a high floor though...that would be nice!

Congrats on the purchase. Enjoy your BLT stay.

We really enjoy the feeling at AKL, Congrats.

Thanks! I am very excited about AKV, even though we are staying at BLT this time. I know we will love our new "home"!

Congratulations and welcome home! We are owners at BLT and love it! We stayed at AKV for 1 night last year and LOVED it, we are hoping to stay 3 ni at AKV in Dec before switching to BLT for NYE. Enjoy.

Congrats! We are headed to BLT the same week for the first time too. We are also owners at AKL, but we have never stayed there yet either. Hope you enjoy your DVC as much as my family does.

Wow, our situations are very similar! I hope you enjoy BLT and everything else about your vacation! We are planning to stay at AKL on our next visit and are looking forward to it very much also, but I know were are going to love the convenience of BLT on this trip. I'm going to make sure we stop in at AKL on this trip so we can check out our new "home" even if we aren't staying there just yet :cool1:

:welcome:Congratulations! :welcome:
So funny I have a room chart I was just looking at last night !
I think I saved it from
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2257082
she has a ton of great info !
I have had rooms - 8410 this is a lake view room with a nice MK view
and I also had 8411 another lake view room across the hall with a nice pool view both on the 14th floor - both very nice - I liked both ,and hope I can get something like this again this year !
Have a wonderful and fun time !party:
