I've been eyeing one at Walmart for a few weeks now, finally broke down and bought it today. I got the one with 2 screens, made by Durabrand. I was hesitant because I like to research products like that before I dish out that much money, but I couldn't find any reviews on it, guess it's too new. We hooked it up, no problems, and I was VERY pleased with the picture quality and sound. The kids love it of course. We only played it for about 15 minutes so far, so we'll see how it withstands the 9 hr drive this weekend. Just thought I'd share, I know I've seen some talk about them on this board before.

Good for you! We're in NC too and just bought a portable DVD player from Walmart also for our next trip. We bought the Orion 9 inch screen portable DVD player with the safety straps that go over the driver and passenger seat and sits right in between the seats. My 2 1/2 year old can be good but I wouldn't ask him to ride all the way from here to Disney without some Disney movies to watch. We got ours on sale for $159 before tax and it works great. Have a great time!

I saw that one too. Liked the price on that one much better, that's for sure. But knowing my 2 kids, the each will need to have their own screen. The extra money will be worth it to keep the peace.
Have a great trip, looks like we'll be seeing the Mouse about the same time! :earsboy:

bought a portable dvd player last year
we purchased one at target store here in stl . mo it has one screen with the option of another screen to add on later i believe it was made by audiovox and it was branded as an eddie baur portable dvd player I believe there is only one or two real manufacturers of all electronic equip with just a new cover or nameplate on it Ha Ha Ha Ha by the way the one we have has an audio video input and output so we can let our son hook up his darned video game so we dont hear from him at all it has worked wonderfully for us

We just bought one for our trip to the Poly this weekend:teeth: I got the dual head phone jacks so we can listen to music while our DD's watch Dumbo, Peter Pan, Cinderella, Snow White, Mulan, Sleeping Beauty, Little Mermaid (if we get it off ebay in time:earseek: )... etc, etc

I hope the car trips are wonderful. Let's report back if the DVD players really make a difference!::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

IMHO - best money spent.

We bought the Eddie Bauer one from Target last summer. Has been on numerous trips to Tunica, MS (can't afford Vegas too often); Detroit, MI; grandma's house lots of times (3 hours away); the Smoky Mountains; Midland, Texas; and at my office to keep kids busy when I had to work over! ::yes::

Went to Radio Shack and bought splitter to make dual headphones and an extension cord for cigarette lighter.

We dont leave home without ours (for long trips)! How our parents survived is beyond me. We have a Panasonic for our 2 yr old. It can hang on the back or between seats, and with the headphones, we never hear a peep out of our son (unless he pulls them off, but hes learned how to put them back on now). We even take it on plane rides, though this next trip will be interesting since its longer than the battery life. Im hoping I can juice it up in the airport while waiting for the connecting flight! The only problem I have is when it comes time to change dvds or get to the controls (our remote doesnt work at all for some reason), and if Im driving, I have to pull over and take care of it. Its a minor problem when I can enjoy a nice long trip without any complaints! Best investment we ever made, and Im getting one installed on my next car!

I've been looking at that one and will probably end up with a dual screen one. Since we won't be vacationing until Oct '05, I'll probably wait until it gets closer as 1) maybe it will be cheaper and 2) that way it won't be broke by the time we really need it.

I ordered one recently and I can't wait to get it. I think I might be more excited that DD! :teeth:

Hey 4DisneyfansinNC !! I just bought the same one on Monday. Haven't used it in the car yet, but it seems like a pretty good picture and sound. We also add a wireless set of headphones so the DS's can listen to their heart's content and we don't have to! Hoping to break it in this summer during our 2-day drive to the beach.

we have that one also, works GREAT!!

we can put one screen for the middle seat and one for the back in our van :)

We just bought one too just for our next Disney trip. Have not sprung it on my DD5 yet but I have a feeling she won't turn it down:) Here is to hoping it will distract her enough so she forgets that she tends to lean towards being car sick.

I just purchased the Mintek from Costco. I love it. The picture quality is better than I expected. Plus they had a $20.00 rebate at the time so I only ended up spending $199.00. Can't wait to use it on our trip to Disney in July.

Also I did a ton of research on the Portable DVD player before I purchased mine. DO NOT get the Cyberhome unit from Walmart. I read alot of neg. things about that unit. And my brother-in-law pruchased one and the battery unit stopped working 2 weeks after he purchased it.

Hi there St. Louis!!!!

We bought the one from Wal Mart with Two screens too. I was hesitant with it too because I also like to research something that costs that much. But I was on trip bye myself with our two DDs ages 2 and 5 bye myself, did I mention that. I bought it when I still had over 3 hours till we got home. Hooked booth screens up and never heard them until we got, other than to put a different movie on.

The wal mart that I was at, had booth models the one that goes between the seats and this one. I got this one because I realized that we would be able to take it on the plane to WDW when we go in DEC.

Very pleased with it?
Next thing I will be buy thought is two seats of ear phones!

This one by Durabrand at Walmart (or any other dual screen DVD player, for that matter) - how much are they, approximately? I know I can get a single screen seat-hanger for around $200, but is the added cost for a dual screen worth it? Just curious, as we have about a 10 hour drive there this summer!!

Thanks!

Hi, hokiefan33 -- The Durabrand 2-screen DVD player was $278 at my Wal-Mart, so was right at $300 with tax. The only reason that I bought it was because we are in the process of going from an SUV and van to 2 small cars and thought it would be better room-wise. The DVD unit itself is very small and compact and the screens are thin.

Just to let you know, the Grande Casino announced they're going to build a $65M indoor/outdoor water park.

We're going to buy one for our next road trip coming up in August.

How are the speakers? Alot of times, car noise can make audio devices difficult to hear and I was wondering if that might apply in this case.

Radio Shack has a wireless device that transmits the audio to your in-car FM radio for you to hear thru your speakers. Maybe not the greatest thing for video games, but I sure wouldn't mind listening to a movie while I'm driving.

:earsgirl: We have been looking at portable VHS and DVD players for our next trip and can't decide what to get. Has anyone tried a portable VHS player? I know they are probably not as nice but they are less expensive. We were looking at one that goes on the floor between the seats.
