I saw that the Boudin Bakery is closed for rehab 10/21/14 - 1/16/15. My daughter LOVES sourdough bread and was really looking forward to buying some and bring home, as well as eat a lot of bread bowls while she is there.

Will they still serve the soups in these bowls at various locations? And will they have any for sale in CA to bring home?

Weird question, I know, but I hope someone knows the answer!!

That's not a weird question! I'd like to know the answer, too! I was looking forward to the yummy breadbowls and my sister always takes a Mickey loaf home to her DH. We'll be there in Dec.

I don't know about in DCA but Boudin Bakery has stores/restaurants in shopping centers thru-out CA. We have one right by our house and it is the same breads/soups/etc that they have in the bakery in San Fran and the one in DCA. So if you have a car; you might be able to get some bread to take home from another location.

We won't have a car, so we won't be able to drive to buy any. unless there is one within walking distance.

Hopefully someone will chime in who has been there before when they were under rehab. I guess if they ever have been :confused3

Sure, but the bread won't be in the shape of Mickey or Lightning :(

Best thing to do is just call or e-mail Guest Services and ask.

:offtopic: We really miss the tortilla factory across from Boudin--and the pack of tortillas they give you on your birthday. Can you say "maseca"?

True; they have alligators, crabs, bears, etc depending on the time of year BUT have no Mickey. :(

Sounds like driving was'nt an option anyways. So good luck! Hope you get your goodies!

You can order Boudin bread online and have it delivered. It won't have the Disney character loaves, but your daughter can get her sourdough fix.

Man! Bummed this will be closed when we are there in December....love their sandwiches.

Is the restaurant closed also, or just the bread kitchen/tour? Could they really take down a restaurant for the duration of the busy holidays?

I believe I'd heard once that there is another bread kitchen on property. I'm not sure if that one show kitchen (connected to the tour) services all of the resorts' sourdough needs.

It's possible bread will still be available in the restaurant and at the kiosk that sells the Mickey loaves.

A call to guest services would confirm, though.

Boudin's main bakery is on 10th Street in San Francisco. Other than the demonstration bakery, they don't indicate where (if any) they have any other production.

All I could find is that the individual locations are supposed to bake their own bread.

Each Boudin SF location features an on-site bakery responsible for baking bread all day, every day, a commitment to quality rarely seen in today’s competitive market. Manned by Boudin’s expert bakers, the working bakeries infuse the restaurant with the irresistible aromas of freshly baked sourdough bread. Guests are welcome to watch the bakers mix, shape, score and
bake bread.

I don't know how accurate this press release is. I've been to some locations, which are tiny and there's no way there was bakery in the back. I'm pretty sure they were services by the main production bakery in San Francisco. It might be the case for the Southern California locations that are too far away to receive deliveries from SF.

Optimistically, maybe they are only closing the touring gallery where visitors can go. If so, the bakery and restaurant can keep churning out products while the visitor areas are getting a makeover.

I don't know the answer to this but I'm assuming since the refurbishment is listed for the boudin bakery tour, that only the tour is closed.

Where did you see it listed as Boudin Bakery Tour? On the DIS it just says Boudin Bakery?
