Bottom Fishing - Castaway Cay- Thoughts?

HI

DH is a die hard fisher and is very curious about this bottom fishing excursion on castaway cay... can anyone who has done this tell us a little about the experience, did you catch anything? (we know its catch & release) besides where the heck would you keep the fish on the ship how many in boat, was the boat small?

DH and DS have done this 3 times. They love it. Max of 6 people on the boat. Yes, they caught fish each time.DH said the last time they must have been near some sharks or baracuda because some of the fish they pulled up were bitten in half!Captain and crew were very pleasent.
If you want this trip, you must pre-book it 60 days before you sail.

I did it and it was great. Well worth the money and a terrific father and son opportunity.

There were six of us on a boat about 25' in length. There was a Cap'n and a mate. The ship was in great condition.

We went about 1 mile offshore and dropped the rods in. Beautiful ride out past the ship.

Immediately, one boy about 12 got a bite and was pulling in a nice butterfish.

Right at the last second a shark came out of nowhere and tried to take it from him. He jumped back so fast (the boy) that he did get the butterfish in. (Nice job, Dude).

We were hooking up sharks for a few minutes. Very exciting, but with the tack (about 20lb test, and nice gear), we left as the sharks were breaking our rigs.

We moved a little bit away and were fishing in about 75 feet of clear water.

We caught lots of fish. Strawberry grouper, trigger fish and others. They were tropical (0bviously) and beautiful.

All in all the average person caught 12 -15 fish. We had a wonderful time.


Well worth the money. Be on the phone at the opening moment of the first excursion booking day.

It's a trip they'll remember for ever.

OKAY- i just emailed my hubby the responses and he said i better be sitting by the phone the second the lines open at the 60 day mark doesn't take much to make him happy; just a fishing pole and the expectation of catching some fish

Actually, DCL is taking some excursion ressies at the 90 day mark. It's a little unclear if you have to be paid in full or not, but we were definitely able to book earlier than 60 days.

DH did this and really enjoyed it. The head server on our first cruise highly recommended this after we struck out on a charter we booked in Cozumel.
