Good morning,
Sept will be our first time in the parks with a baby, she will be 4 months at the time....my question is how will I sanitize the bottles? We will be staying at All Star movies so there is a refrigerator but not microwave in the room.
Thanks

Not sure how you would sterilize a bottle. I think a good washing with hot water and dish soap would be fine.

The only time I've sterilized bottles is in the dishwasher (because I was too lazy to wash them). Soap and water is fine. One you touch a sterilized bottle, it's no longer sterile, not that babies need sterile anyway.

What are you trying to sanitize, the bottles and nipples or the formula?

For the bottle we always used the playtex disposable bags and gave up boiling the nipples after a few months. If you are talking about the water, first I would never give what they call water in Florida to a baby, but I think you can buy water for mixing formula or just use bottled.

Also after a while we also just used tap water straight out of the faucet cold. Thats the way they wanted them.

My baby is 14 now, so I'm not sure what's in the baby aisles these days, but why not use disposable bottle liners for the trip? There's still such a thing, right? :) As for the nipples you could bring enough for the trip, or for half the trip and mid-way through go to one of the baby care centers to use the kitchen there to sterilize the batch for the 2nd half of the trip. (I'm thinking boil some water in the microwave in a container, and then put the nipples in that for a bit).

Can you use the disposable drop ins just for the trip? Then you can take multiple (clean and sterilized) nipples with you. I know some babies are resistant to changing the bottles, and my DS did not like the standard round nipple which comes with the set, but I found the replacement nuk which fit the system. That was 29 years ago, and I'm sure they have everything these days! I used the drop in system to avoid colic ( squeeze the air out, no air in their tummies).

I've take. 2 babies to Disney. Washing with soap and water is just fine. They are 11 and 6 now, so they survived :). I thought with my first you had to sanitize and warm the bottle, etc. turns out, it is not necessary. Have a great trip. I loved being both of mine when they were so little.

I agree with EEPETEZ hot water and soap are more than fine. If you want too, bring foam kitchen soap and a bowl. Then you can use the bathroom sink to run the water super hot and soak the bottles/nipples in the bowl for a few minutes. Then rinse by running super hot water over the bowl until the soap disappears.

My kids are 2 and 3. We've been to Disney 5 times (since my youngest was 9 months) and although we usually stay in a villa our first time was in a hotel room with no kitchen. You will do fine.

Remember also, there is the baby center in magic kingdom for those "quiet" times that are sometimes necessary when you are in the park. It's behind Casey's Corner and WONDERFUL. They usually have fresh supplies of things too that you may need AND they have high chairs and rockers too!! :)

We took enough nipples for a day in the parks (DD was 12 months so that meant only 2) and used the disposable liners. We bagged the used ones in a zip lock bag and then sterilized them in a microwave bag in the food court at night.

We brought bottle soap and a bottle brush with us (along with a tupperware container to fill with water). Actually..I think the bottle brush we used was one that you could put the soap in the handle (like those dishwashing sponge wands you can fill with soap).

Babies R Us has a bottle rack that fully comes apart and packs flat that we use for all of our travel. So we'd fill the tupperware with hot water, wash w/soap, and let dry on the bottle rack overnight. the bottle rack, taken apart, fit inside the tupperware - as did the bottle brush, so it was really compact for travel purposes.

There are also the Medela Steam Bags that you can use for sterilizing that you throw in the microwave (since PPs said the food courts have a microwave you can use).

Super hot water is the least clean water source. Hot water tanks harbor all kinds of things. Oh and another thing, bottled water is bottled Florida water.

I'm with the soap and water team.

With my 1st son, I boiled water and sterilized everything. With my 2nd, the sterilizing was less often because I had a 2 year old and didn't have time!
With my 3rd son, he was lucky to even get a good rinse on his!!! :lmao:

What about the pre-done bottles like you get at the hospital> I think you can buy them at babies r us

When we took the babies I had distilled water shipped straight to our room. One year I used pre-mixed formula and had that shipped. Then washed everything in the room and used a microwaveable sterilizing bowl (especially made for bottles/nipples/etc) in the microwave. Best of luck - it's fun, but a bit more effort.

Soap and water should be fine. That is what I did with my oldest when we took her on her first trip to Disney, but she was 10 months then. If you really want to sterilize bottles, I would buy the microwave sterilizer bags, which you can find with the breastfeeding supplies and use it in the foodcourt and/or babycare centers. That is what I used to sterilize bottles and pumping supplies when we went on vacation with my 2 mo. old last summer. Luckily, we had a microwave in the room there. I was still breastfeeding, but I had to pump because we left the baby with the grandparents while we went to Busch Gardens.

I went with a 3 month old and stayed in a value resort (no microwave). I was nursing but for supplemental bottles, I used soap and water.

If you really want to boil/sterilize, you can:
- bring a bowl or large mug to fill with water and use the food court microwave
- buy the sterilizer/steam bags (I know Modela made them) and use the food court microwave or Baby Care center microwave (baby care center in each park. . . they are AWESOME for feeding, rocking to a nap, and some much needed peace from the over-stimulation of Disney!)
- bring a small automatic coffee pot and use it to heat water in your room

I agree with the majority.

Mostly at WDW with extended family we just used hot water and soap.

One trip -t o have coffee- we had a car and bought a coffee maker (to have coffee). There's a Walmart on 192, and coffee makers aren't expensive. We gave it away before we left (glass pot).

You could also try a small hot pot, or the microwave bags as suggested.

If you bring enough supplies to last at least half your trip, that would help. Walking back and forth to the food court is time consuming.

It is also worth noting that many kid meals come with an option for applesauce. If we've gone to WDW with children six months and up, we just bought kid meals and asked for double apple sauce (someone else ate the rest). Also, it is pretty easy to mash up a host of foods for an infant over six months: rice and bananas come to mind. Babies survived for ages before food processors came about. They also survive now in plenty of places that lack electricity. one infant food not readily at WDW is Cheerios. You can often find tiny boxes of Cheerios in stores. Ziploc bags are also great! (snack size up to the two gallon ones, or the giant ones are too big for travel.)

Another trick we employed: babies can use straws, in a pinch. Dip the straw in the drink, and plug the top end to create a vacuum. Slowly release. And almost any baby above six month can use a straw, just burp them. They already know how to suck.

Napkins can be used as burp clothes.

Thank you for all of the great advice!!! I will bring some dish soap and a brush in a Tupperware and some steam bags to use in the microwave...If I'm going to use formula it will be the premixed type and I will be shipping it from Garden Grocer ahead of time! Cant wait until September to get here!!!:cool1:
