Our son will be 3 months old when we go to WDW this January.

I am mainly breastfeeding but he will take an occasional bottle. I may give him a bottle a few times on the trip with the powdered formula.

Any good tips on sterilizing water and bottles while in a hotel? We use the Avent bottles so no liners.

I know that they make portable sterilizations systems, but I think that they are probably expensive and bulky. How about a small hot pot - the ones that actually hold the water, not just heat a mug. Try it at home before you go to see if it will work.

I used the Avent bottles when I was supplementing too. There's no need to sterilize them, just wash with hot soapy water (I use antibacterial Dawn), and use bottled water. You can take a bottle brush and dish soap and wash them in the sink in your hotel room. I also like to take Clorox or Lysol wipes to clean the sink good before I do dishes in it. I also throw a roll of paper towels in the suitcase. Works great for lying dishes on the vanity to air-dry, and comes in handy for other messes in the room too!

When DD (now 7 so it's been a while) was a baby, she also used Avent bottles, but they made the kind that took liners then. Do they still make those? That could be an alternative - you would only need 1 bottle with a bunch of liners and a couple of nipples. The nipples were the same regardless of the type of bottle you used when DD used them. It might save significantly on bottle cleaning as the bottle itself would only need washed once a day, not sterilized. BTW, we never sterilized either DD's bottles after the initial boiling when they were new and both girls are perfectly healthy - it's not absolutely necessary according to some experts, but you do what feels best for you and your baby.

I only sterilized the before the first use too. And with ater, if you are concerned, bottle water is fine ,but tap water i nthe US goes through a sterization too, so it should be just fine as well. But personally I only used bottled water with my DD. But my DR said that well water was even fine as long as we knew it wasn't contaminated.

We took our DS when he was 5 mths old and I also supplemented. I only gave him 1 bottle a day, so I just bought 1 case of ready to use formula for the trip and one bottle. I know it's a lot more expensive than the powder, but for one week, it wasn't a big deal. I wasn't sterilizing anymore by then either. Then when we left, I had extra room in my suitcase for more souvenirs.

We used bottles that had liners, measured the formula into each liner, folded them over and taped them shut. Those were thrown into the backpack along with one more diaper that we thought we'd need + wipes and away we went. I know you'll read about people who hate Disney water, but we just popped the liner into the bottle, put water from the drinking fountains in, stuck on the nipple and shook. (I know that will apall some of you, but this kid was and is as healthy as a horse. A healthy horse, lol.) Travel with babies can be just as complicated as you want it to be.

We took one bottle and a few nipples as someone else has mentioned, and washed the nipples and bottle each day, just hot water and dishsoap on my hand like hand washing, not need to scrub the sink because I didn't run water and sit things in it.

Ask your pediatrician about whether or not you really need to sterilize bottles. Ours said boil them when they are brand new then just wash between uses. But I would use bottled water.

Medela sells awesome sterlizer bags that you just pop in the microwave for 3-5 minutes. I use them when we are travelling. I highly recommend.

I took my DS at 3 months and just washed his bottles in hot soapy water in the hotel.

I breastfed, but brought Avent bottles just in case. I only used it twice during my trip. I used bottled water and powdered formula.

I breastfeed, but do have to pump and feed sometimes using the Avent Isis pump. I use the Avent sippies. Same as the bottles but different tops. My daughter wouldn't take a bottle so we started on the avent soft spout sippy top at 3 months. I wash the cups and my breastpump in hot soapy water. I only sterilize things before the first use. (And if I notice my pump getting cloudy - so every few months!) I'll bring a small size of dish soap for the diaper backpack.

Never breastfeed, but we always used the disposable liners in the playtex bottles. Easy just bring the little bottles of nursery water and powder formula. Pop the top off fill it up and shake. I loved it when the powder came out when I had my last child three years ago. Have a good time.

I bought some microwave sterilising bags for our fouthcoming trip! Takes only 3 mins in the microwave! Bought them in the UK but I am sure you can get similar in the US! :teeth:
