My friend is traveling with her 8 month old next week and is wondering what she can bring in her carry on to feed him?

The best place for up to date official information is here :
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/index.shtm

"Medications, baby formula and food, breast milk, and juice are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding 3.4 ounces (100ml) and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint."

As if now baby formula and other baby foods are exempt from the liquid restrictions but I recommend reading the link to make sure she knows exactly what and how much she can bring.

If she has any trouble, she needs to tell the smurf to stop and ask for a supervisor (STSO). If the supervisor continues the hassle, she should ask for the following sets of letters before proceeding:

GSC (Gate Security Coordinator)
FSD (Federal Security Director)
LEO (Law Enforcement Officer)

If flying from a smaller airport I recommend taking powder formula if at all possible. The smaller airports (El Paso is smaller, KC is not if that helps) do not have the equipment to "test" the liquids without opening them. AFter opening they need to be refrigerated. This was my experience.

When DD was 8 months old, I packed 24 hours worth of powdered formula & baby food in glass jars plus a few small bottles of juice. At the time, there were many incidents of planes being held on the tarmac & for up to and over 9 hours and I know it's possible for planes to be redirected and end up in a city other than your destination city so to me, what I packed was a reasonable amount. There was no way I was going to be stuck with my baby for that long on a plane or in an unfamiliar city without everything I needed. No one batted an eye at all of our stuff. We even had liquid medicine that had to be in a soft-sided cooler with an ice pack. We just declared all of the liquids when we approached TSA and they nicely waved us on through.

We used to bring 4oz. bottles when my son was a baby. TSA is usually very good about it. One time though, they used some sort of crazy detection wand thingy on all our bottles:confused3. it all worked out though, I'm sure it will be fine!

I went through Indy and Orlando last week with bottles that I had filled with water at home and a few extra bottles (8oz each) of nursery water along with 1 can of liquid formula and a lot of powder formula. No one batted an eye at it. Also had teething gel, nasal drops and gas drops--I like to be prepared for potential distasters! :rotfl: I had all of that stuff in a large ziploc bag and handed it over as soon as we reached the scanners. It was back in my possession as quickly as my stuff went through the machine.
