We sail out next Saturday night, and we have heard that both the Magic and Wonder cross each other at 11PM.Which side of the ship should we be standing at to see the Wonder? Thanks!

Maria

We never saw this, but I will put in my two cents worth about seeing another ship. RCI's Mariner left port about 30 minutes behind us on Sunday night and were in proximity to us most of the way to Nassau (until they passed us). The ships allow so much distance between them and the sea is so dark that you may be able to make out the ship lights, but it is not likely they will be close enough for you to recognize which ship it is without knowing for sure!

We saw the Magic but to be honest I don't even remember what side we were on. We were on the 11/14/2004 4day

Someone on these boards actually posted a cool picture of the Magic as the ships passed. It was actually pretty cool. I am not sure how to post a picture, so PM me and I can send it.

It's VERY exciting to be on a Disney ship and then see the other in person, so I think you have a great idea of trying to find out what time they will cross paths, so to speak :)

We were on the August 28th Magic cruise and both our ship and the Wonder had to dock at Port Everglades on the same night, due to Hurricane Frances. It was THE most exciting part of the cruise (other than just the fact of being on the cruise itself). DH and I were standing out on our portside verandah watching several other cruise lines' ships coming into port when suddenly I saw that the next ship sailing in had 2 red stacks. I told DH that the ONLY other ship that I knew of that had 2 red stacks was the Wonder!! We immediately pulled out our binoculars and saw that it was INDEED the Wonder! Knowing that this was an extremely rare occurance (both ships being in port at the same time) we grabbed our video and still cameras and ran up to deck 10 where we spent the next hour with a big crowd, cheering and screaming out to the CMs and guests on the Wonder as it drew closer and closer to us. Both ships were yelling out cheers to the other; it was quite a scene!!!

I would definitely try to view the Wonder on Saturday night if I were you. :)

Last time I was on the 7 night eastern (oct. 2000) we passed the Wonder on either Fri. or Sat. night. We were close enough to see the smoke stacks and knew it was the Wonder. I'll try to find the picture.
I'm hoping to do this again in January. If so, I will take a picture and post here.

Maria - we plan on being on Deck 10 Saturday night just to see the Wonder. I've read that you can see her quite well. But times differ. I've read anywhere between 11 to 11:45. We'll save you a seat! Might be a good place for a meet!

If you ever are on the Sunday Sailing of the Wonder, and are staying in the Port Canaveral area you can go down to the park that sits at the end of the channel and watch the Magic leave. We have done this the last 2 times we sailed on the Wonder and you get some great shots of the Magic and the other cruise ships that are leaving port.

Plus there are usually a large group of people watching with you and the locals are fishing. Quite Fun. Note that the park admission is $5.00 per car.

Ok...because of this exact thread I was all excited this past Saturday onboard the Wonder hoping to see the Magic pass by at night.

Well we were down in Diversions and became friendly with the pubmaster Jeff, from Southern California....really nice guy!! Anyway I was asking him if he knew what time the ships pass each other and he pulled over another CM, Andy from Australia who used to be on the Magic and now is Asst. Cruise Director on the Wonder. Jeff asked Andy if he knew what time the ships pass each other and Andy said they never do....and that this week the Magic was still on it's weird schedule....I politely told him that I am pretty sure they did pass one night (I thought Saturday) and that the Magic was starting her normal rotation that day, the 8th because I knew some Dis'ers were going to be on her for a 7 day. Andy insisted that they never pass each other.

So, what's the deal...I tend to believe my DIS friends more, but you would think that the CM's onboard would know for sure, wouldn't you????

MJ

From the Magic eastern cruise, Saturday night around 11pm starboard side I have personally witnessed the passing of the Wonder.
It is quite a site!!! :boat:

Does this ALWAYS happen or is it only for certain cruise dates??

It will be our 1st time on Magic 1-28-06

Did anyone see them pass on the 12/18/04 Magic cruise?

Well, next time I am on the Wonder I will let the CM's know that!!! I knew I was not crazy for knowing that they pass. I did not know if was Eastern specific...but now I do...thank you!!!

I would think this may be a hit or miss kind of thing. It would depend on when the ships leave port as to when and how close they pass. Saturday at 11pm on the Magic eastern cruise sounds right to me. If the timing is off, I would imagine the distance would increase to a point that you could see the other ship, but not know for sure it’s DCL. Lots of cruise ships going to/from Port Canaveral on Saturday night ya’ know!

We plan on trying for the Eastern for our next cruise, and armed with the information from swede63 (you have to explain that name to me) I will definitely be looking for our sister ship at 11pm on Saturday (I love being on deck anyway!).

Yes,we saw the Disney Wonder pass the Magic on Saturday,December 18,2004,and it happened around 11PM.We were aboard the Magic.I was talking to another cm about this, and they themselves didn't know.I told them well now you know to look for it.

I've heard you'll see it if you're on the starboard side of the magic. Which makes sense if you look at there routes. Plan to be cozy on my verandah watching for it :)

hmm thats odd. We must have sat on the verandah and hour from 11:00 -12:00, and didn't see them. Maybe we just blinked.
