Just a follow up on the decision to eliminate the speakers and video from the Cambridge side of the river. I spoke to the committee that runs this event yesterday and was told the speakers wouldn't be there because of a funding issue. The woman I talked to told me to email the head of the committee. I got this back this morning.
As you may have read in today's newspapers the lack of speakers is not a
funding issue. It appears that due to the very large crowds no matter how
many speakers we installed we never would have reached them all. Your
comments are very well taken and I hope next year we can revisit this issue.

So let me get this straight... Because the speakers can't reach everyone, they take them away so they can't reach ANYONE?? How absurd! I wrote back and pointed out to this woman that not everyone can physically spend an entire day in Boston to get a spot in front of the Hatch Shell (where the Pops play). When the speakers were there, you could go in an hour or two before the show and still be part of it all.
Ever since Keith Lockhart took over as conductor, the festivities have gone down hill. July 4th should be a party and he's made it a platform for his political and moral beliefs. It was a sad day when John Williams left as the conductor or the Boston Pops.
Ok, rant over. Sorry but the 4th of July is my favorite holiday and it hurts to see it ruined by people who don't have a clue.
