does anyone have a hotel favorite within a two hour block in any direction from Boston? I would like to spend $250 or under for each night. I'm thinking only a night or two. Not Boston itself though. Thank you

What kind of hotel do you want? Lots of amenities or lots of character? If you like lots of character, I highly recommend Tge Colonial Inn in Concord, MA. It should be under your price range for most rooms. Small town, oodles of history, less than an hour from Boston. Pretty straight shot to the city via Rt. 2 if you are driving, but there is also a train from Concord to North Station.

Not sure when your looking to go but the Holiday Inn Brookline is usually reasonable and right off he T. So Bbery easy access to downtown and all touristy things.

Thanks but we live only ten minutes from there. I was hoping for more amenities. We live thirty minutes north of Boston. I appreciate your help

Check Woburn MA, several hotels there. Crowne Plaza, Red Roof, Marriott Courtyard, Fairfield Inn, and others. About 15 - 20 minutes to Boston via Rte. 93. This area is at the intersection of Rte. 93 and Rte. 128, lots of tech companies on 128 so lots of reasonable priced hotels in the area. Better to be right on/near 93 for a straighter route to Boston, 128 often gets backed up traffic at this intersection.

Oh, didn't see that you lived north of Boston, my suggestions might be too close to home for you!

Thanks but I would like to go somewhere besides Boston. Was hoping for ideas on Cape NH. CT. RI. ME

Got it, are you looking to go now or the spring? I love Wells/oqunguit area in Maine, off season (depending when you go) is really beautiful and not expensive.

Season (summer) can be pricey.

In NH Omni Mount Washington Resort is nice, for the Cape the Chatham Bars Inn or Ocean Edge Resort, also the Trapp Family Lodge in VT.

It really depends on when you want to go.

Sorry, I thought you wanted to stay in that area, not away from it!

What about Portsmouth, NH? Wentworth By the Sea is gorgeous and they have a spa.

I second the Ocean Edge, esp if doing a weekend get away. I also like the Sheraton in Eastham. Are you willing to add little extra time on? DH and I stayed in a very nice hotel out in the Stockbridge area in February and I think we paid less than $100/night - it takes about 2.5 hours to get there. Spent a day at the Norman Rockwell Museum. There are also some really nice places on Nantucket and in Newport, RI.

The Hyatt Regency in Newport? Or the Chatham Bars Inn on Cape Cod?

How about a hotel in Portland Maine? My dd15 and I spent the night last summer and did some typical touristy stuff such as a lighthouse tour, observatory, duckboat ride etc. I stayed at the Ramada Plaza and it was cheaper than a downtown hotel but not a far drive to the waterfront. Portsmouth is nice but that is just a local trip for us (I live a few miles north of Boston) so not sure of hotels. Have you visited Hartford? There is a Science Museum, Mark Twain House, Bushnell Gardens, Rose Gardens, Wadsworth Atheneum, Harriet Beecher Stowe Center etc.

What about Mystic, CT? Not sure of hotels in the area, though...

The Harraseeket Inn in Freeport is really nice and if you book directly with them you get a really nice breakfast buffet and afternoon Tea included. It is walking to the downtown shops and depending on the season you can do a walk-on tour with LL Bean for an outdoor adventure.
