I have a business trip to Boston, Wednesday and Thursday, June 22nd, 23rd. :moped: I was wondering if it would be good staying for a few extra nights, Thursday through Sunday AM. What's to do? I will be staying at the Boston Marriott Quincy on South Shore, wherever that is. :confused3 Good area, near downtown Boston? Any DIS meet possibilities? ::MickeyMo

Hey Dan, that's where I grew up... more or less. :teeth: The hotel is located up in the Crown Colony area. There are lots of professional buildings in that area (medical offices, etc) and the hotel sits up on a pretty good size hill.

It's just a short drive to the South Shore Plaza. The expressway is right there for a drive into Boston (NOT recommended!!!) or you can catch the subway in Braintree. I'd say the parking garage for the "T" (that's what we call the subway up there) would be less than a 15 minute drive from the hotel.

Boston's subway system is pretty easy to understand and an event all in itself. Here's a link to their site. Subway Info

While in Boston be sure to get a frappe or some tonic. You should have a wicked good time!! :rotfl:

Your hotel is not near downtown Boston. Quincy is a different town altogether. However, there is good public transportation from there into the city. If you don't absolutely have to, I would avoid bringing a car into Boston. It's hard enough to drive there if you are a local. Visitors don't stand a chance. :earseek:

There are a ton of things to do in Boston. You definitely won't be bored. You can see a show, go to a museum, take a whale watch, poke around the North End, etc. It all depends on what your interests are.

You can walk the Freedom Trail, or go to the MFA and the Isabelle Stuart Gardner Museum.
Go to eat at Figs or Olives two of Todd English's first restaurants. Durgin Park is also a tourist haunt. It is near Quincy Market (not the same Quincy in which you are staying).
If you are in Quincy you could visit the graves and homesite of John Quincy Adams and his father John Adams.

If it were me I would find a way to get to Salem and visit the House of Seven Gables and all the historic areas where Hawthorne used to live IN addition, the site of the Salem Witchcraft Trials.

ooohhh...a Saturday DIS Meet at Fanieul Hall would be fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok Dan I chickened out of the last meet but would go in a NY minute to meet you! You rock! I agree with NHAnn...I have only been there once but I liked it. I live a very cloistered life, lol...my office and um my office! :confused3

Ditto!

Maybe Dan will help us find Jerry? Last years FH/Swan Boat meet was fun, we could do that again. :goodvibes

That hotel has a free shuttel to the "T" station down the street. I work about 3 doors down from the hotel. Quincy itself isn't very easy to get around in without a car, unless your a bus route savant.

I always recommend getting a tour of Boston, including a harbor lunch cruise. See Old Ironsides; the Old North Church, the Freedom Trail, Harvard square, etc.

Boston in June is usually great weather, too.

OOH OOH I want to come to the Dis Meet! Maybe we can finally meet Dan....even though we were suppose to in WDW 2 years ago!

Kim

No advice Dan, but Boston is a great city. I stayed at a hotel in Cambridge near M.I.T.
Don't forget to check out the "Cheers" bar!

Have a great time! :)

Wicked awesome! ;)

Have fun, Dan! I would love to go to a DIS meet in Boston, but I don't go down there too often. I wouldn't know my way around. :confused3 But I can always try. :)

Hey Dan - Kathi and Mara fly down to Disney on June 24 so maybe you could meet up with them the day before or something. I'll send her this thread so she will know you will be in town. They are flying down to stay with us over Memorial Day weekend - a fun-filled weekend at the lake :teeth: ! Have fun!

Dan, I hope we can meet up with you! Quincy is about a 15 minute subway ride to Boston, where Chris and I go every day for work. If you are there on a Friday evening or Saturday, we could possible even meet you with Monty & Dodger (who are both quite welcome at many shops, restaurants and tourist laces around the city). :goodvibes

There is SO much to do in the city and surrounding areas. :) I don't have time to post it all now, but I'll try to post again tomorrow with some suggestions. :)

Dan, if you do get into Boston, have lunch or dinner in the North End. There's a fantastic restaurant on Salem Street named La Famiglia Giorgio. They serve excellent Italian food at very reasonable prices. Have a great time!
I second the motion for La Famiglia Giorgio - that restaurant is great!!!

I'm just a hour from Boston so a meet is always possible!

I am thinkng you need to hop the train to the north shore(half hour trip) and come see Salem, Beverly Danvers into Gloucester!! ;)

Wait till Karen (TLinden16) gets back from WDW...I'm sure she'll be game to plan another DIS Boston meet in June! Maybe you could move intown for the weekend, sometimes it's cheaper at some hotels in the city on the weekends...or priceline it!

Too bad the 2004 World Series Champions won't be in town, you could of caught a game or two, or you could come down to the "Cape" for a day!

:cool1: How cool is this...Dan Murphy in Boston!! I'll head north!

Lots to see and do! If it were me, I'd be checking out the JFK Museum and the Boston Aquarium (or is it called the New England Aquarium?).. I've heard they're both awesome! :flower:
