DH has a conference in Boston in June and I have to go there to do a couple of stories for my magazine. We're combining our trip so that I come out at the end of his conference to work and he can stay with me for an extra couple of days.

I've never been to Boston (or anywhere in NE) so I'm excited. But DH doesn't know what we're gonna do while we're there, so he doesn't want to stay an extra day or two. So, Boston DISers, help me compile a list of things we can do and see. Tourist attractions? Best not-too-expensive restaurants? (Well, I will be on the company's dime...) Must-see things?

TIA! :cheer2:

Quincy Market is a must. My husband loves Durgan Park at Quincy Market. My favorite resturant in Boston is Anthony's Pier 4 which is right on the water near Black Falcon Cruise Terminal. The Prudential is fun for shopping and the Red Sox are great to see if they are home

There is an incredible hidden jewel of a museum in Boston called the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. It was rather infamous for awhile because they had several priceless works of art stolen a few years ago. But it has always been my favorite museum anywhere! And it is cheap!! Unless it has changed recently, the admission was "donation," as in whatever you feel is appropriate. I'm sure if you google it, you will get lots of info.

Quincy Market is always fun - lots of restaurants, bars, shops, etc. And the north end is very close, so it can be kind of 2-fer.

The Museum of Fine Arts, The Museum of Science, The New England Aquarium, Harvard Square, the Swan Boats at the Public Gardens, the Duck Tours - now I'm homesick!!!

Walk the Freedom Trail and visit many historical sites. Go on a whale watch. Take in a show in the Theatre District. How about Blue Man Group?

Anyone know of any good B&Bs? Since we're on an expense acct. I can go a little more plush.

Thanks for the ideas -- keep them coming. I'm Googling your ideas now!

On a beautiful spring day nothing beats a Duck Tour. So fun and a little bit of history (not too much! more fun than boring). Good overview of the whole city.

Don't miss the swan boats, Quincy Market or Newbury St. Boston at it's finest.

So many dinner options - we'll need more specifics? Italian? Fancy? For my money, I'll take Legal Seafood any day. But the Cheer's Bar is fun for first-timers, Top of the Hub is pricey but best view in town.

Science Museum is awesome. You can tour Fenway Park in the mornings, even if you don't have game tickets.

I'm not from Boston, but we visited a few years' ago and it was one of my favorite trips ever. We spent a whole day walking the freedom trail (well, we did stop in a few pubs along the way). If you enjoy history at all, the walk is just amazing. We also enjoyed walking around Harvard Square.

Are the Red Sox going to be in town while you are there? Unfortunately, they were on a road trip when we were there.

We stayed at the Ritz and had a room overlooking the commons. If you are on an expense account, check it out. The location was wonderful.

Will you have an extra day or two to go to Cape Cod? It's about an hour and a half drive from Boston and a great day trip if you have the time and a rental car. When DH and I have a free day without the kids, we'll often just get in the car and drive to the Cape. We usually don't have a destination in mind, just driving around seeing the sights, and will end up finding a great seafood restaurant for dinner.

You may also want to check out Plymouth Plantation.

Have a wonderful trip!

I'm not sure how old you are or if you're into the bar scene....but if you are and want a fun night out, check out Dick's Last Resort in the back bay. I'm sure they have a website as they have bars elsewhere. They make fun of you there though.....so if you're easily offended, stay away! I have a story for every time I've been there :)

How about staying at the Omni Parker House, www.omniparkerhouse.com
or Nine Zero, www.ninezero.com They are both on Tremont Street and in the center of everything! We've stayed at both and love them, Nine Zero is modern and the shower and bath amenities are amazing. The Omni is more traditional and they both have great restaurants. I couldn't tell you which one I like more?, I love them both. You could see so much in 2 days.

What type of things are you and your DH interested in? Shopping, or tourist type things? Also, what kind of food do you both like? The North End is about a 4 minute walk from those 2 hotels, they are right across the street from the Boston Commons. You could go to Prudential Center/Copley Plazaor Newbury Street shopping and all places have great restaurants. The Cheesecake Factory, or Italian at the North End. There are some reasonably priced restaurants everywhere. ChinaTown is about another 4 minute walk, they have great restaurants if you like chinese food that are inexpensive..Asian Garden! There are so many more, but give me an idea what type thing you are looking for!

www.beaconhillhotel.com is another hotel/bistro type place and also the Millenium Bostonian Hotel right across the street from Fanueil Hall which is very popular and in a great location too. (I've never stayed at these two, but they are always full and in great locations).

Lynn: So funny! We're staying at the Omni Parker House! I'm still trying to find a hotel for my photographer -- everything is sold out downtown. Since I'm taggin on to DH's trip, we extended his already-booked hotel, but I can't find a reasonable hotel for my photographer.

Also, this goes back a while ago, but I saw a Rachel Ray $40/day show and she had ate a fried, softshelled crab sandwich and it made an impression. Is there anywhere to have one of those in Boston? I probably wouldn't like it, but Rachel Ray made it look positively orgas- well, you know...
