I just spoke with a Delta rep. about our 3:55 flight home from MCO. We are getting off the Disney Magic early in the morning and I asked if we could possibly get on the 11:00 am flight instead and what are our chances. She stated that this flight (the 11:00 am one) is already OVER BOOKED. So for those that are booked on that flight, be sure check in very early to confirm your seating and make sure you get on this flight. It sounds like a very busy day to go home.

I've got to fly to Boston on 6/29, and the airfare is ridiculous. I'm actually going to fly into Newark and ride the rest of the way with my husband. Makes my trip a lot longer, but no way I'm paying $300+ for a o/w ticket into Boston.

We'll put out the welcome to Boston mat for you Anne!

I have a feeling the Delta flights are still in for some shake-ups down the road. Hopefully it won't last too long and they'll get it all figured out.

I thought that all Delta flights have advanced seat assignment (booking).
So, how are they able to over book ?

I think you will find that a lot of the airlines overbook...then bank on no-shows using those refundable tickets. That's the big reason to get there early and get checked in!!!

But...if you have your seat assigned and you check in online (up to 24 hours in advance). Is'nt that as good as guaranteeing your seat ?

You can buy tickets without getting a seat assignment. As someone who books a lot of last minute travel you I routinely get "no seat selection" avaialble. I have NEVER been involuntairly bumped. A couple of things. Some of those "over booked" in coach are waitlisted for First Class. As it gets closer the airlines clear the frequent flyers who have requested an upgrade thereby freeing up seats for "over booked" (Over booked generally only applies to coach...) Some folks won't show up for the flight and since it's MCO some folks will try to "strech" thier vacation and arrive just before the plane is scheduled to leave. They will then hit lines from heck and miss the plane.... Some folks will change their flights. They actually have models for ALL of these options.

This would NOT be a good time to push the arrival time. So if you arrive at the gate 13 mintues before the plane leaves you could be out of luck... DL requires you to be there 15 minutes in advance, keep that in mind. (Luggage on DL at MCO must be checked 45 minutes in advance, but if you wait that late... good luck!)

You are NEVER guaranteed a seat on a flight, even if you have a ticket and seat assignment. The best way to make sure that you will get on a flight is to get to the airport early.

Many flights are oversold.

Don't try to cut things too close. The ship might doc a bit late or the bus back from the port could get delayed.

Oh, I completely understand this. I don't intend on changing our afternoon flight to morning, however, what I meant by asking at the airport is changing it when we get there at 10:00 or so. We will have a very long wait as it is, and thought if that morning flight was available, we'd take it. But certainly not considering a flight change until we get to the airport.

When you get to the airport the Kiosk will tell you if you can attempt to get on the earlier flight. Before I changed my ticket I would LOOK at the security lines. If you arrive at 10 on a cruise change day you may not make it through the line by 11.... much less out to the gate.

Agreed. Thanks.
