Boston area Dissers- can someone help with some info

DD15 and I are going down to Boston on Friday for a dance competition and we're taking the Amtrak's Downeaster train from Maine. The train goes to North Station, and from there we'll have to take the subway to the Hilton Back Bay, (near the Hynes Convention Center). Can someone tell me which subway station is closest to the Hilton and how far it is to get there from North Station?

We'll have luggage, (not a lot), and I'm just wondering how difficult it's going to be to get from North Station to a subway station near the HIlton, and how far we'll have to walk. Thanks so much for any info.

No matter what, I figure it can't be worse than driving down to Boston on a Friday evening in the middle of rush hour. I hate driving into Boston at ANY time of day or night!!

Hynes has its own stop on the Green Line, as does North Station; you can take the subway direct from one to the other (with minor annoyance from the construction). Keep in mind, though, the Green Link is a trolly, so you'll be dragging your luggage up and down stairs getting on and off the train.

Do you know how close the Hilton is to the Hynes Convention Center? So, if I'm understanding correctly, we can get to the Hynes right from North Station, but it isn't the regular subway due to construction? We have to take a trolley?

No, the Green Line trolly IS the regular subway, going out in that direction. The construction just means access to the Green Line is a bit circuitous. The connection from commuter rail to Green Line used to be a lot worse, actually, but once the construction is done, it'll be easier than it has ever been. That's all I meant by the "construction" comment.

As far as I can remember, the hotel is "right there" -- I don't think you could find a closer hotel to the subway station.

The Green Line is always a trolley. The construction is at N. Station, so I have no idea how to get to the tolleys once you get to N. Station. It used to be that you walked outside and up all the stairs, but the overhead tracks are gone.

From what I remember, the Hynes/ICA stop dumps you off on Newbury Street near Mass Ave. I don't know where the hotel is compared to that though.

The Green Line E branch stops at Prudential, which is a tiny bit closer (.16 mile) than the Hynes/ICA stop (C branch, .25 mile). The Hilton is directly across the street from the Hynes.

Yup, you're right. I've avoided that side of the Pru because of all the construction there, but I suppose that's all finished now. And that would be a little closer than going to the Hynes station.

BUT! That points out something that the OP needs to know: The Green Line SPLITS after Copley. The E Line goes to Prudential, while the other three lines (B, C and D) go to Hynes. As you can tell, it's not really a big difference going one way versus the other, to get to your hotel, but still, know that you get off one stop after Copley, no matter what! If you definitely want to head for the Pru (E Line) know that you may be better off changing at Government Center rather than waiting for a E Line trolley at North Station, since some trolleys start at Government Center.

If I were you, I'd just take a cab. It should not cost you more than around $10 and you will be dropped right at the hotel. You are going to make yourself crazy with the stairs, the turnstiles, etc... on the T (subway).

Yes, my daughter is competing and attending the workshops. She is SO excited because Mia Michaels, (choreographer from "So You Think You Can Dance"), is going to be teaching the jazz classes!!
