Boston Area DISers and everyone else!)--Platelet Donations

Hey folks,

My DH (a heck of guy, if I do say so myself) donates platelets once a month. He has done this for about 4 years now. He just called on his way home from donating, and the ladies at his donation center were telling him that the levels of platelets are very very low, and they need all the donors they can get. They need whole blood as well, but are desperate for platelets. This is true of the Boston/New England area, I am not sure of the rest of the country, but I know they can always use blood donors.

If you have the time, and are so inclined, I would like to ask that you contact your local American Red Cross Blood Donation Center, and see if you can help.

I'm like your DH...I've donated monthly for the past 7 years and biweekly for 4 years prior to that. It's an easy way to help others.

Many hospitals run their own donations centers as well -- I go to the New England Medical Center donation center for my platelet harvesting. If the American Red Cross center isn't close by, call your local hospital and see if they do it.

Deb, thanks for the reminder. I will tell my friends and family. Unfortunatly my DH and I are not canidates because we have recently come back from a 3rd world country.

I also donate platelets, but I am having a problem with my iron being so low. Bravo to those who are donating on a regular basis!
