Anyone know of any reasonable accommodations for families of patients? We would need Aug 30-Sept 5 for 4-6 people...We would like to be within a mile or two of Brigham and Women's Hospital...Any ideas would be appreciated....:goodvibes

Hi, if you go to Brigham & women's website - I haven't posted the whole link but add the following to the hospital name when you type it in your browser--
.org/family/accomodations
Best of luck.

Check out the Children's Hospital website as well. Call both of the hospitals. I'm sure they can assist you.

Good luck.

Not sure the eligibility requirements, there is also a Ronald McDonald House nearby.

Our Ronald McDonald house is for oncology patients at Children's only.

At Brigham there are not as many family resources as there are at Children's. The link a PP posted is the best one.

I second the Inn at Longwood. It's a best westernn property, has decent, clean rooms and a food court adjacent to the hotel. It is close to multiple Hospitals in the area. They have a hospital rate as well.

I would definitely speak to someone in the hospital they have to have a list of accommodations with rates and distance to hospital.

I second the talking to someone at the hospital. I used to have a route. . .I drive wheelchair van. . .out of Harborview in Seattle. I have talked to many people from out of state that have loved ones there. . .mostly for trauma care. Hotels in Seattle can be very expensive, but the hospital had a contract with a hotel not in the downtown area for just this type of situation. The rate was reasonable and they even ran a free shuttle to the hospital. I'm sure you are not the first family at that hospital with this need. . just ask. And OT. . .I hope that everything goes well for you. Now is not a great time to have to worry about finances as well. . .but it is a fact of life.

How far is Bedford from the hospital? The hotels seem to be a LOT cheaper there ....Any reviews of the Bedford Motel?

Bedford is probably over 15 miles, but at least a 1/2 hour (no traffic) from the Longwood Medical Center area of Boston. Cambridge hotels can offer good deals, but still it would be a drive/cab ride/T ride to reach your destination. Good luck with your search!

Regardless of what anyone else says, call Ronald Mcdonald house. We used them few years back in Charleston South Carolina when my daughter was born severely premature. We stayed for 2 months. At the time they asked for a donation per day, but also said they understand if you cannot make one. They really saved us at a very tough time. I believe that the rule they have is you have to live at least 50 miles away from the hospital to be considered. The accomodations are great, the staff was awesome. Check them out first. For what it's worth they are our number one charity now, we never realized how much they help families in need, until we needed them.

Bedford is a little farther outside the city than I think you would like and you would not be able to take a cab to/from the hospital without breaking the bank. As an alternative, I would suggest that you try priceline - you can stay at most of the larger boston hotels for about 100$ a night (although expect to pay extra for parking if you will have a car).

We've stayed at the Best Western Terrace Inn. It's on Commonwealth Avenue. It's about 2 and 1/2 miles from the hospital. We recently stayed there for something else and passed the hospital on the way to the hotel.

You can try calling the local Ronald McDonald house but each one has different criteria.

As a volunteer at the RMD house we accept families of any patient under 18. The patient can be receiving services at any of the many area hospitals for any health condition.

Good luck.

There is also the Hope House in Boston for patients receiving treatment in Boston but any family or patient should talk to the case manager at the hospital for more details on the surrounding options.

All of the hospitals get a discount at the hotels in the area and can also review other possible lodging.

If you could get an affordable rate Brookline would work well. You could walk from the Holiday Inn in about 15 minutes or so. The Courtyard Brookline is also within walking distance and on a bus route 66 that runs frequently and goes near the side entrance to Brigham and Women's in less than 5 minutes though probably a tad longer during rush hour. The Courtyard is just a few minute walk from a Stop and Shop for groceries. I stayed at the Best Western Terrace Inn once for a night. It is a tad further away but my room had a stove etc which could help with food expenses.

Check out my friends and family link for IHG hotels - there may be one close by like the Holiday Inn someone mentioned. They probably have some great hospital rates. If not, the friends and family rate may be a great option.

The Boston Brookline Holiday Inn is the closest on the list to Brigham and Women's and the only one within walking distance. I just can't remember if you can cut over to Longwood from there or if you have to walk up to Harvard then go either straight down Harvard to the side entrance or walk down Longwood to the main entrance. I had my wedding reception at the Holiday Inn in Brookline.
