Sooo... boss' day is Friday. I am at the bottom of our financial hole, working on building the ladder that will get us out of this hole. I was thinking that, instead of going to the flower shop and spending $50 on something there, and since I have a bushel of apple drops at home, that I would make an apple crisp for the office and send an email 'round saying something like "For Boss' Day there's apple crisp in the kitchen. If the bosses say okay, I'm sure everyone else can have some!" or similar. Since we have a smallish office (a dozen people) one pan of it should be enough...

Anyone think that this is a bad idea? I can't really see any way that this would offend but if it DOES it would make working a torture in such a small office...

We don't do anything for this day so I think your idea is very nice.

You can even skip the email and just put it in the kitchen with a sign. This way, you could not possibly be seen as bragging or "in your face" which seems to be a common office complaint.

However, my office loves when treats come in so it is always a positive around here.

Wonderful idea! Something homemade is special, IMHO it means more, you took the time out to make it yourself.

I agree with a previous poster, skip the email and put the piece of deliciousness in the kitchen with a sign. :goodvibes

A sign! I'll do that; everyone goes into the kitchen so it's not like people will miss out if they don't get an email :)

Thanks, I feel better already! And a little silly about worrying about things like that (see the thread on "are you a worrier?". Indeed I am!)

:thumbsup2

We have done things along this line also. We recognize the day without spending an over abundance. We have done small breaksfast also. Ex: breaksfast casserole, chessy potatos.

Am I the only one puzzled about why "bosses" get a day? I can understand mothers and fathers and secretaries...but *bosses*?

Back on-topic... I do think a home-made goodie sounds nice.

agnes!

We celebrate boss' day with a big, homemade meal made by our VP (she's an amazing cook!). The owner (boss) loves her cooking and it's his favorite day of the year. :goodvibes

Darsa, apple crisp sounds soooooo yummy! I think that's an awesome idea. I'm sure everyone will be grateful for a sweet treat on a Friday!

I think I'm going to make my boss some cookies. He loves everything sweet and those will be easier for him to snack on during the day.

Well, maybe because bosses are people too, and enjoy a word of appreciation every now and then?

The apple crisp sounds wonderful.

Thoughtful and heartfelt gifts do not have to cost a bundle. Our secretary brought in homemade blueberry, strawberry, and apple muffins. Very nice.

I'm with Agnes on this one. I work on Wall Street and my bosses make a boat load of more money then me. Their appreciation day comes when the bonuses get paid. It's not the same as a small office at all.

But the apple crisp sounds like a great idea for your office. :thumbsup2 Hope it went over well today.

It's 3/4 gone as of 9:30 this morning, heh. I just went down and snitched some; it's a little less "done" than I'd have liked, but people are raving about it so I guess it's pretty good! :thumbsup2

True that, and also for some people, it's an official "butt-kissing" day.

I think the apple crisp idea is a very nice one, and I wish I could have a taste, Darsa. :)

I bought my boss a card and gave to a coworker before I left the office yesterday so she and our other coworker could sign it and give it to our boss today. I was feeling very sick yesterday and knew I wouldn't make it there today.

I think that sounds just fine. I couldn't afford a fancy arrangement or anything this year either really because it just landed on a bad week this time. I stopped at the grocery store this morning and low and behold they had HUGE beautiful Mums on sale for $6 so I got her one of those, a card, and a bottle of local NC wine.

I think your idea sounds lovely OP.:goodvibes

I just think it's nice to recognize what they do for their employees during the year. I know that not everyone has a great boss, and there are some pretty crappy ones out there. BUT it's very hard to be the boss (trust me, I know, I was there once!) and sometimes you can feel that no one appreciates you and the good you are really trying to do for your employees.

Again, I know that not ALL bosses are good people; but most are, and trying to do good for their employees.

Agreed. You don't always get great bosses so when I do, I like to tell them thank you for being kind, understanding, and pleasant to work for. My current Boss is wonderful and I was happy to show her my appreciation. Just as she showed her appreciation to me on Admin Day.
