Bose home theater?? Help

I am looking at a Bose home theater, the cinemate 2.1. I am looking for any reviews that someone can offer. I know the 5.1 is the best, however it is not the best for my wallet!! My living room is 17x24 and wondering if this will work ok??

Bose products are very expensive for the quality you get. If you want 5.1 sound (highly recommended) you should shop around. I'd avoid those "all-in-one" systems if possible. You can get a decent surround sound receiver at a very resonable price and purchase the speakers separately. If you don't have the budget for 5 speakers and a subwoofer, you can start with two speakers for stereo and add additonal speakers later.

I also agree that Bose Home theater can be a good choice for you. The best thing which I like about Bose home theaters is that you can get best quality of system at an affordable price. You can get the sound you expect from your high-definition video and audio sources with the Bose home theater package.

Dude, stay away from Bose. I used to sell the stuff and for a similar price there's much better else out there - Rega, Arcam, ProAc, PMC, even Cyrus. You can buy it in bits, starting off with a 5.1 amp and two speakers, adding a cents and then backing eaters and a sub woofer later.

In the home theatre world, Bose is considered low end. It's subpar for the price, where the only time it sounds great is in a perfectly controlled room (like the ones they demonstrate in their stores). There are FAR, FAR better options out there.

Couldn't agree more - Better to get good quality and build slowly rather than get a box system that you will wind up moving to the garage later on when you "know better". Take a look in the avs forums or home theater forums for some sound advice on how to build a budget system - even if it is piece by piece. YOu can invest in a decent receiver and then add speakers and other devices (blue ray plater etc) as your budget permits.


I'm sure you will find that most of those folks will agree that BOSE stands for Better Off w/ Something Else. Use tuned enclosures that can be cheaply reproduced to extract the biggest sound from the cheapest electronic components - smoke and mirrors.

OK, as a DJ who owns a $5000 Bose DJ set of speakers, I agree.... it is too much money for what you get. Same with ALL Bose products. I won't get into why I bought the Bose anyway.

That said, I have heard the cinemates, and they are not good....not good at all. The voices seem to be overpowered by the music. In fact, if you go to Costco, the demo for them doesn't have any voices in it.... because they know people wouldn't like it, IMO.

The best part about the Cinemates is the ease of setup.

There are tons of options better than Bose for a home theater system.
