Borrowing/Waitlist question

Here's the deal, I want to make a reservation at OKW that requires borrowing points. The problem is the only place that's available the whole time is SSR. If I book SSR and waitlist for OKW and the OKW waitlist comes through, will I lose the point difference because borrowing is a final transaction ant the points can't be returned to the current year's point allotment etc.

I believe once they are borrowed they are borrowed. Meaning they will stay in that use year.

You won't lose the points though-you can then bank an equivalent # of this year's points into your next use year (as long as you are still in banking window)-the downside is you have to use them next year then or lose them (whereas the points you borrowed could have been banked into the following use year)
IE if you are in 2015 use year and borrowed 30 2016 points (for your current reservation) if wait list comes through make sure they used the borrowed points first. This frees up 30 of your 2015 points to bank into 2016

if you used current year pts to book the stay, those pts can be freed up and banked forward to your next UY.

if you only used banked and/or borrowed pts, those pts are stuck in the UY of the stay.

What's your use year? Could you use some points next year?

Sorry I was assuming OP meant they would borrow some points to make the reservation-if all points used are banked/borrowed (not current use year) my previous post is not helpful

That's the tricky part, my UY is June and I've banked all of my remaining 2015 points while the stay I'm looking to book is next month. I'd be staying in a studio so the difference is only 12 points but I hate losing even 1 point.

2 choices as I see it:
1) Book the SSR reservation and don't sweat it.
2) Wait List OKW, and if you lose the points you lose the points. (Why you would choose #2 over #1 I don't really know.)
3) If you are determined to try and get into OKW, but don't want to lose your points: Book one day less at SSR so if you get your OKW waitlist, you won't have any extra points lying around. This has risk that if you don't get your waitlist, you'll be one day short on your vacation. You COULD book that one extra day as a cash reservation, so that the room would be held, but then if you switch to OKW - you cancel the room only and get your money back. (Seems a bit complicated.)

Based on the fact that the trip is only a month out if the waitlist came through I think the points not used might go into holding. I am not sure but think that holding points can only be used for a reservation that is 60 out and cannot be banked.
