Borrowing Questions . . . Do I have this right?

Hi Guys-
We just took the plunge yesterday and bought into DVC. We have a February use year and did MB, so our first points come on 2/04. After looking at our calendars and points last night, we decided to squeeze in a January 04 trip in addition to our annual fall trip. So, if I want to go in January 04, I'll have to borrow some of my 2004 points which I get on 2/1/04.

Here's my question/concern: If we borrow the points and then have to cancel for some reason, I think we only have whatever time is left before 1/31/04 to use those points (a couple weeks if something comes up at the last minute). Is this right?

You have it exactly right. I have a Feb use year, and we vacation at Christmas, so I bought a separate contract for Christmas, because I have had to cancel ressies twice, and lost some of those points. So now I use the Feb contract for spring or summer vacations, and use my August contract for Christmas.

You also won't be able to use the points for anything other than a DVC trip unless you make the reservations no later than the 60 day mark from check-in (this would be sometime in November for a January trip). You can travel to non-DVC resorts up until the end of your Use Year but must make the reservations 60 days or more before traveling begins.
