I thought I understood borrowing but now I am not so sure.
so I have an October use year. I have used 2012 points and most of 2013 already. If I want to book a vacation for April of 2014 do I have to wait until October to do it? And in October 2013 will I only have the rest of my 2013 points and my 2014 points available?
Thanks to anyone who can clear this up for me

UY has nothing at all to do with when you can call to book. if you want to book a stay in April 2014, you have to wait till May 2013 to book your home resort.

April 2014 is in your Oct 2013 UY, so that means you have access to banked 2012 UY pts (if any) + current 2013 UY pts (current based on dates of stay, nothing to do with when you call) + borrowed 2014 UY pts (if needed).

again, when you call in May 2013, you can use current 2013 UY pts + borrowed 2014 UY pts...but you can only borrow one year ahead so that is it. (keep in mind that even though you are not yet in your 2013 UY, you are not "borrowing" 2013 UY pts since the stay is within your 2013 UY - the 2013 pts are current pts.)

if you need more pts, you'd need to find transferred pts from DVC (only up to 24 pts available and only at the 7 month window) or another DVC member.

If you look online at your account, you should see October 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 points. You never have to wait for points to be "available", they are loaded before you could possibly need them.

Also note that you can book your April 2014 vacation at your home resort starting May 2013 (11 months from the day of checkout) or September 2013 for non-home resort (7 months). If trying for non-home, it is safest to book home first at 11 months and then switch.

April 14 is in your 2013 UY, so you can use banked 2012 points (whioch you don't have), your 2013 points and borrow 2015 points. If you borrow and thn cancel, you must use those borrowed points by September 30, 2013 or they expire.

I just found this out the hard way - points "rented" from DVC canNOT be used for waitlisted days. My waitlist came through, but the CM had to cancel 2 of my nights, rent DVC points from Disney and then use MY points to book my waitlisted nights. It was touch and go and we were afraid that when she canceled those 2 nights, I might not be able to get them back. It all worked out but it was a tense 45 minutes on the phone.

Thanks for all the information. Used all my points on a disney cruise- which was completely worth it! We are on a waitlist to add on at the BCV but I am worried about when it will go through and I am trying to plan for if it doesn't go through. Thinking of booking at AKL at the 11 month window and switching when and if my add on comes through

11 months from check-in, not checkout. That was the old rules.
