as often as you need to borrow in order to make reservations. (just remember that you can't put them back if you borrow them.)

Also can you borrow after you make the reservation to fulfill the number of points needed for that reservation?

if you are out of banked and current pts, you would have to borrow pts when you call MS to book a reservation or else you would not be allowed to make the reservation.

(i'm not sure why you would ever want to replace banked or current pts with borrowed pts. (?))

also, unlike banking, you only borrow when calling to make a reservation...you do not borrow pts just to have them available.

You can borrow as often as you need to, up to one years worth of points. However, you can only borrow if it is needed to complete a reservation, so you can't "make a reservation" then borrow, the points will be borrowed at the time of the reservation, if needed.

And remember, the ponts need to be in the accoiunt for the time frame of travel, not necessarily the date of reservation. In other words, if you make a reservation in your 2009 use year for a stay in your 2010 use year, the points need to be available in your 2010 use year, not the 2009 use year.

Borrowing isn't a separate, standalone transaction like banking. You only borrow at the time of making a reservation that requires more points than you have in your use year.

For instance, you call MS to make your reservation. The CM says "OK, that reservation will require 89 points. I see that you have 70 points remaining, would you like to borrow the additional 19 points from your next use year?" That's how borrowing happens.

If you borrow points to complete a transaction, then cancel the reservation, what happens to the points?

if you borrow 2010 pts into 2009 and cancel the reservation, the borrowed pts are stuck in 2009. they cannot be banked or otherwise put back into 2010. they will expire at the end of your 2009 UY. (you can bank any current year pts that were used for the reservation IF you are still within your banking window.)

if you cancel less than a month out, all of the pts for that reservation become "holding pts" and are restricted as to use - you cannot bank them and they can only book what is available 60 days ahead.

Thanks for the reply. I have asked it on another thread as I'm trying to get clarification. If I have 160 points I am borrowing from 2010 Dec UY to complete an April 2010 reservation, then decide to cancel, I would have to use those borrowed points by Nov 2010?

yes, they would expire at the end of nov 2010.
