borrowing points?

I'm sure this has been asked and answered on this board, but can someone explain the process of borrowing points? For example, if we have an April UY, when can we borrow from our April 2009 points? Would it be when we are making the reservation (we're looking to do this trip in July 2008 and would therefore hopefully be calling MS in August 2007 for the 11-month window) or do we have to wait until April 2008 to actually make the reservation? The member guide does not go into detail about borrowing points, and we've never had to borrow before, so I was hoping someone here could help.

You can borrow the points when you make the reservation. Everything goes by the date of stay, not when your use year starts. If you have an April use year, your July 2008 trip would be in your April 2008 use year, so you would be able to borrow 2009 when your 11 month window opens for your home resort.
