I am trying to decide exactly what we need for points to start us out

If you have a December UY 2005 When can you borrow 2006 points and 2007 points. I thought I remember reading where Points go from August to August so currently the point year is August 2004 until August 2005. Is that correct?

Example... December UY 2005 150 points... Make reservation for March 2005 and I need 200 points so I borrow 50 points from 2006 ... So now I have 100 points left in my 2006 allotment.. When am I going to be able to make reservations for a trip in 2006 borrowing for 2007? I guess this puts me in a borrowing mode and would eventually want to purchase more points.. just for the sake of understanding how this all works.. Can someone shed some light on this

If you have a December use year, your points are available for a stay from December 1, 2005 through November 30, 2006. So if you wanted to go to WDW before December 1, 2005 you would need to borrow all of the points. If you go after December 1, 2005, lets say March 2006, you would have 150 points to use but could borrow from your 2006 points up to 150 more. You couldn't borrow from your 2007 points for that trip.

All points don't go from August to August. They only do that if you have an August use year. Points go from the beginning of your use year until the last day of the month before your use year begins.

OK..lets say you are all borrowed from 2006 with your December UY example.

You "borrow" the 2007 points for a reservation that is made for any day in the 2006 UY.

So right now if you had made a reservation for 200 points for March 2005 which caused you to borrow 50 points from your Dec05-Dec06 allotment, You could make a reservation for anytime between now and ending by Nov30th that would use the rest of your 100 points in Dec05-Dec06. You would then be eligible to "borrow" your Dec06-Dec07 points for December 1st 2005 on...

In other words you can use the points if they WOULD be available at the time of the reservation...so you can borrow from a use year that is 1 year away from the day that you are staying in the DVC resort...does this make sense?

To add to HBC's explanation -

Make yourself a chart like the one below - it will help you to understand:

2005 use year points are valid for stays between 12/1/2005 and 11/30/2006.
2006 use year points are valid for stays between 12/1/2006 and 11/30/2007.
2007 use year points are valid for stays between 12/1/2007 and 11/30/2008.
2008 use year points are valid for stays between 12/1/2008 and 11/30/2009.
etc.
Then see which use year your planned stay will fall into. To pay for that stay, you can use current use year points (those are the ones that are valid for the period your stay falls into). You can also pay for it by borrowing points from the next use year or you can use points from the rpevious use year (if you banked them).

HTH. Sometimes it takes awhile to understand how banking, borrowing and use year works - especially with a December use year. You have to forget what you know about calendar years, LOL! I have an August use year, but still have to make and use a chart every so often.

Ok I think I am getting it... So let me see if I have it..

Example: December UY I make a reservation for March 2006 using Decemeber 2005 points and 50 points from Deceber 2006. In April 2006 I can make me ressies for March 2007 using the leftover 100 points from 2006 and borrow from 2007?

I hope I got it now! Let me know if it looks right. This banking and borrowing has me a bit confused. Thanks for your help

If you are counting 2005 points as being December 1st 2005-November 30 2006, then yes you are right.

Personally, since you have a December use year I would call them my '06 points since 11 months of the year is 2006, but, hey, what do I know?
