borrowing points question...

Ok, my use year is April.

We're thinking of a trip in January 2012. I'll have 33points from my April 2011 UY. Then will have to borrow the rest from April '12 points for the rest of the reservation...my question...What if I have to cancel...what points do I lose????? Or, when do I have to use them by??????

Since a trip in Jan 2012 will take place in your 2011 UY, any 2012 UY points you borrow will expire March 31st, 2012.

Your 2011 points would also expire March 31st, 2012 if you cancel after the banking deadline for those points, November 30th, 2011.

Borrowing points at the end of your UY is risky because if you cancel, you would really only have about 2 months to use up those points.

Did this exact scenario two years ago. We have an April use year and booked a trip in January. We ended up cancelling the January trip and then had lots of points to get rid of by March 31st. I had a tough time selling them because I couldn't get reservations for people due to the places being booked for the Marathon, MLK weekend, President's Day weekend and spring breaks. I did finally sell all our points but it was alot of work.

If you did borrow 2012 points and find you need to cancel January trip, you could possibly turn them over to David to see if he can help getting them rented; it's still big risk though being there's not much time between January and March 31st.
