Borrowing points question

Ok, we had a couple points left over fromt this past year that we banked, this coming June we may have to borrow from 2011, if we do this and our vacation rolls around for the 2011 can we borrow from 2012? Or is that not allowed? I hope this is not complicated???

Sure, you can borrow every year if you want to. Right now I have two contracts and on my BLT contract every point from my 2009 & 2010 UYs has been used between now & Feb, which all falls in my August 2009 through July '10 year. For my VGC contract, I used all my 2009 points last month & also borrowed 3 from 2010 for the trip. Earlier this week I booked a trip in Oct. 2010 to VGC and am using the remainder of my 2010 UY's points + borrowing ALL my 2011 ones. Sounds a lot like what you are talking about!

What is your use year? If your date of stay is in your 2011 use year, you can borrow from 2012.

As long as you have points available you can borrow all of your points from 2011 into 2010 if you want to.

Be careful though. Constant borrowing means that you have another points purchase in your future.

I was wondering about this also. i called today and they told me i could not use my 2011 points for my november trip in 2010.... my use year is december, she said i would need to borrow from my 2010 points when i make my november 2010 reservation and i can't borrow 2010 and 2011. you see i will use the remainder of my 2009 points and my 2010 points for my thanksgiving 2010 reservation but would need a few points from 2011 to get what i would need and i was told i could not do that becasue i would still be in my 2009 use year when the reservation is for... is this correct? this is very confusing to me also

Yes. With a Dec UY, most of your travel happens in the calendar year AFTER the UY you are in.

So, your November 2010 reservation, happens during your Dec 09 UY (Dec. 1st, 2009 through November 30th, 2010). That means, you can use "banked" 08 points, 09 points, and borrowed 2010 points for this trips.

The easiest way to do this, I think, is to first figure out what UY the trip happens. Once you know that, you can figure out what points can be used to "pay" for the trip since you can always use banked points from previous UY, current UY, and borrowed points from the next UY.

In your case, in order to you 2011 points, your travel would have to happen in your Dec 2010 UY (which would be Dec. 1, 2010 through November 30th, 2011).

Another consideration with borrowing is the points cannot be moved back to their original use year if you change your mind. There was a post this week where someone with a February use year had a January reservation that they may have to cancel. Borrowed points were used, which meant they had to be used by January 31.
