Borrowing Points Question

Forgive me if this has been covered to death . . . I can't seem to find the info I need and I want to make sure I understand this clearly . . .

If I am making a reservation at 11 months (home resort) that will require me to borrow from next year's points AND THEN I switch that reservation at the 7-month mark and the new reservation uses less points, will the borrowed points be considered borrowed still and remain in the current use year or will they be put back to their original year?

I understand that once points are borrowed, they cannot be put back, but I guess the real question is this:

Are the points considered borrowed at the time of booking or not until the trip is actually completed?

Keep in mind that points usage is based on date of stay, not date of reservation. If you make a reservation for a date in your 2008 use year but the date you make the reservation is in your 2007 use year, 2008 use year points would be considered current year, not borrowed.

If you would change the reservation, you can ask them to keep the borrowed points in the reservation and return the current year points.
