Borrowing points online 11-months out, changing resorts 7 months out

My fiancé and I are planning our wedding at WDW in October. To book it, we must have a reservation number for our 4 night minimum stay at WDW. In order to have this, I will need to book my home resort (BLT) now. I will have to borrow some points in order to make this happen. I see I can borrow them online. No biggie.

My problem is, if I were to change resorts at 7 months out, possibly reducing the amount of points I need to borrow from next year, do I get the borrowed points I didn't need back into my 2014 amount? I would imagine if so, I would need to call MS, which isn't a big deal.

Did that sound too confusing? I don't want to do anything until I know I can get those points back.

Borrowing is a Final Transaction. Once borrowed those points remain in the Use Year you borrowed in to.

It depends on how many current points you have in the reservtion or if it's all borrowed. If it's all borrowed, then any remaining would have to be used by the end of the use year. If some current/some borrowed, they could return the difference in current points (assuming there are enough), which can still be banked if you are within your deadline.

Right now, its 36 points in my 2013 use year, and I'd borrow 37 from 2014. Thats to stay at my home resort.

So, if I were to change, I could use the borrowed points in my reservation and put back the 2013 points I don't need, then bank them for 2014?

Did I understand that right?

Depends on your use year and when you are going. As DebbieB said you would have to be within the guidelines for banking.

Which resort were you going to try to switch too? You will be there during F&WF. The epcot DVCs will be tough but you might get BWV Pool/garden

You can always rent someone's points, 37 points won't be too expensive. You can always rent your points out at the 7 month window to recoup the money you spent if you need the cash back. This way you won't have to borrow from next year.

Yes, you've got it right. If you're doing it seven months out, then you are certainly still within your banking window.

Well it turns out I do not have to submit a reservation number in order to book my Disney Fairytale Wedding, but this is VERY good information to know.

The third week of October isn't very busy, is it? We are penciled-in to get married on October 21, which is a Monday. We are required to be there for 4 nights. We want to stay somewhere that I haven't stayed (which means my fiancé hasn't stayed there either), which means either Beach Club, WL, or SSR (which I don't really want to stay at). Out of those three, I know that SSR will be the easiest to get into. I think WL would be a wonderful resort to stay at for a partial honeymoon (we are doing a Disney Cruise). I am hoping for a studio.

October is Food & Wine Festival time. Beach Club might be difficult, you should be able to get WL or SSR.

All of October is busy due to Food and Wine and the Halloween Parties. BCV will be very hard to get and even WVL since it is not a large resort. SSR will not be as hard and you should be able to get it, right at 7 months.

VWL will be hard as it is during MNSSHP so very convenient for that. That said, you'll have a decent chance of a waitlist coming through. We had 7 nights booked in a studio at VWL for the 16-23rd and had the last 4 come through for BWV, even though it was during food and wine. We were pleasantly surprised but it did take several months for the waitlist to come through.

I bet another option is to make a room only reservation. They only charge your card one night and you can cancel without penalty up until 5 days before your arrival. Despite it not being a requirement to book your wedding, it still may work better so you dont have to borrow points for a reservation you dont really want at BLT.

Then at 7 months, you may still decide if the reservation you want is available or not

We booked BLT. I love the hotel and the short walk to MK. And who doesn't love TotWL!? If we can move to VWL, then great. If not, we are still going to have a great time at BLT!
