So I have been researching buying DVC for a couple years now. My husband and I have been traveling to Disney every year for the past 10 years, and we found out that we prefer deluxe accommodations. I know what UY I want/need but I'm waffling about the amount of points.

We would mostly travel in the Magic Season and likely stay in a studio. I am looking to purchase at SSR. We would need to finance so I don't want to over buy right now. Originally I was thinking about 150 points, but now I'm wondering if I should just start at around 100 and borrow ahead for awhile until we can add on more points. Is there anything wrong with doing that?

Since you are financing I would definitely only by 100 points. You can also purchase up to 24 one time use points at 7 months if you need to add on additional nights. SSR is also going to value areas in the resort in 2017. That should make it easier to get by with less points.

For the record, I am against borrowing to purchase a time share. You will pay a high interest rate and will lose any potential savings. I would skip Disney for two years and save the money to purchase with case.

A couple of things. Smaller contracts go for higher price per point (100 points or less are smaller) but you can resell it for more too (and they resell quicker). You can always add points on but you cannot take points off of a contract (meaning: if you buy a 200 point contract and want to downsize to 125, you can't break off 75 to sell them...each contract stays intact). But you can add on as much as you want to your membership (I think there is some crazy high # per resort that we can only buy to...like 2000 or something). Price the cost difference of 100 pointer versus 150 pointer. And see if it's worth it.

Another plus to buying several smaller contracts is that you can have different home resorts for 11 month booking priority at each.

Figure out what you need for a typical stay and buy that many points. Later when you grow unhappy trying to book other resorts at 7 months you can either sell your SSR points and buy at your favorite home resort or use your SSR points to rent or to book at resorts with availability at 7 months.
