i have been on medical rcovering from surgery, and they have cut my pay how do you juggle? really hate to dip into retirement funds.. wish my mom was alive she was so good at it.:D

I was on medical leave 3 years ago and the insurance company that was to pay my disability took a year to pay me. It was awful.

I had a certain amount of reserves, but very few people have a year's worth especially someone with a California house payment.

I really did borrow from Peter to pay Paul. I took very low interest cash advances to tide me over and cut every expense that I could. I even ended up selling my house.

Good luck and I hope your recovery goes well.

No real advice, huckster, but do have good wishes and my best for a quick recovery and getting back in the swing. How much longer do you anticipate being out?

I think you probably need to start by making out a budget of everything that HAS to be paid -- like food and shelter and utilities. Will your reduced income pay for those? You know, when it gets really bad, as long as you have food, shelter, and heat, things could be alot worse. Many Gas and Electric companies have low income assistance programs were they can offer assistance. See if you can qualify.

Everything else, if you have the extra $ send them some. If not, write them a letter or call them and explain the circumstances as well as when you think you will be working full speed again.

If your disability is temporary, many of them have programs to let you make interest only or other small payments until you are back working again.

I hope you feel better soon.

I don't have any advice on this topic, Huck. I hope you make a complete and easy recovery. {{{HUGS}}} sweetie.

Definitely make a budget and stick to it.

Go to a discount grocery store and/or buy store brands. Avoid expensive snacks and convenience foods. Do not eat out. Change your eating habits at home so you are eating nutritious, but less expensive meals.

Cut out nonessentials--be sure to pay the rent/mortgage, utilities, etc. As another poster said, contact the utilitites and see if they can work with you for several months (may require doctor's letters, etc.)

Consider getting rid of cable tv. Use free entertainment opportunitites. Exchange videos/dvds with friends. Get books and videos from the library.

Wait on buying new clothes.

Turn the temperature control for the furnace down lower and wrap up in blankets and wear warmer clothes in the house.

Consolidate any trips you make in the car to run errands and go to the grocery store.

If you have credit card bills, call the companies and explain your situation and ask them to work with you. Provide doctor letters if needed.

Will it be hard? Yes. Everytime, you want to buy something that isn't a necessity, put that money in a jar and it will be there when you really need it.

Good luck with this and wishes for a speedy recovery!!!!!!!!
