We are planning a trip late August 2014. Because of a large family reunion trip last year, we are scraping around for points. Our use year is in October. To book at the 11 month window, I know we can borrow from 2014, but since our trip is in 2014, I wanted to know when/if 2015 points would be available. We would like to add more days on than we can afford with just 2014 and possibly switch resorts at the 7 month window.

Any ideas???

You could borrow 2015 points for a stay 10/1/14 or after.

August 2014 would be in your 2013 use year (10/1/13 to 9/30/14), so you could use banked 2012, current 2013, borrowed 2014.

You could try to rent points for transfer or rent nights from a member. Or pay cash for additional nights. DVC will sell 24 points to you at 7 months.

How could I go about renting points for a transfer? Would I be able to add them on to the points I have to length the stay?

When points are transferred into your account, they are yours to use. However, if they don't match your Use Year you cannot combine them to make a single night reservation (for example, take 10 points from you and 10 points from your transferred points to book a 20 point night). So its probably helpful to determine exactly how many points you want.

THen need to find a member who hasn't transferred points in the Use Year of the points you are going to transfer and pay them to transfer you the points. The going rate is around the same as the rate to rent points. Just don't tell DVC about this, it is against the rules to pay for a point transfer.

.

This is incorrect. Once the points are transferred into your membership account UY you can use them in any combination including to supplement for a single night.

What you may be confusing is that if an owner has 2 UY's they cannot combine the points for a single night unless they transfer points from one UY to the other.

Also, in order to use the 11 month reservation priority, transferred points will need to be from the same Home Resort.

The "One-time-Use" points available from DVC cannot be used until 7 months but points transferred from another member may be used at their Home Resort using the 11 month priority.

Remember, too, you cannot borrow transferred points. So you would need to transfer 2013 UY points into your 2013 UY. 2014 points would need to be borrowed and you can't do that.
