Borrowed points problem

I'm hoping a DVC expert can help me out with this question...

I have a reservation for myself and sister for this May at BCV. I used 2009 use year points for these reservations. I also made a reservation for my parents at BCV for May using a combination of 2009 points (24) and points borrowed from my 2010 use year (41).

Now my parents think they may not be able to go. (They will definitely let me know before the 60 day window.) If I need to cancel their reservation, can apply the borrowed 2010 points to one of my other May BCV reservations and then bank some of the 2009 points I originally used for these reservations? Or, since the other May BCV reservations were made using 2009 points, would I have to cancel all/part of one of these reservations and then rebook it using the borrowed 2010 points? I ultimately want to bank my extra 2009 points (including the 24 2009 points I used for my parents' reservation plus the 41 2010 points I borrowed.)

I don't know if DVC uses specific points for each reservation or they just apply a # of points to your reservations. I hope this makes sense!

If you are still in your banking window, then yes, you should be able to do this. Just call MS as soon as you know and explain to them what you want to do.

Thanks so much for your help. I am still within my banking window so it sounds like I'll be okay.

Yes, indeed specific points (banked, current UY, borrowed) are applied to each reservation. Do be very careful in your conversations with MS; state your intentions clearly; ask for their interpretation/understanding; and be sure to verify all results. Good luck!

If the reservations are for the same dates, I'd cancel mine and just change the name on the reservation for my parents to my name. Then the returned points would be all current year and could be banked.

That seems less risky to me -maybe ask MS what is easiest for them.

If the reservations are not for the same dates, then I agree with the previous posters. Make sure to ask the CM to give you a status of your points before you hang up. If there were any errors, it will be a LOT easier to fix them right away than it will be later when you notice the error.
