If you make a resevation with a mix of borrowed and current years points, what happens if you make a change to the resration that ultimatley requires less points? Example if you make a 7 night reservation (with some borrowed points) and then decide latter (before the 30 day cut off) to stay six nights, which points are returned to your account?

I understand if you borrow points and dont use them for the resevation you have to use the borrowed points before the end of your use year and they can not be banked.

So in my example are the borrowed points returned 1st and the borrowed points have to be used before the end of the use year??

:confused3

I believe (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm mistaken) that they would return your current year's points first, so that if unused they could be banked into the next year - assuming you're within the banking cutoff dates.

And I'd certainly make that pitch to MS if they wanted to use your current points first and return the borrowed points to your current year.

You can tell MS which points to use for the changed ressie. If you don't think you will be using the borrowed points for another ressie before your use year is up, then tell MS to use the borrowed points for the changed ressie and keep the current year points. Then bank them into the next use year.

My understanding is the points are tied to a specific night and if you cancel, you get those points back first regardless of current, banked or borrowed status. Many times they will sub the points in the reservation in this situaiton to get you the points you have the most flexibility with, namely the current year points you could then bank, borrow or transfer. I must admit that I don't recall a specific example of the how DVC handles this in action. The question is whether the points for an entire reservation are looked at in aggregate or night by night. Again, my info says the later but I am not certain by any means. I'd be interested in others experience.
