Borrow and Borrow again

The pattern is borrow, borrow, borrow, buy. It's how you catch addonitis.

By George, I think I have been doing it all wrong!!! I have been banking, banking, banking. I need to change to BORROW, BORROW, BORROW, so I can then add on!

We have 2 Darling, most wonderful grandsons, and we liked stealing them for pre Christmas trips to use less points, and leaving their parents home. Their Mom is a teacher, and is very restricted with when all 6 of us can go. We tried summer, too hot for us old folks. We tried spring break, too crowded and hot for her. Now, we have banked and borrowed to come up with the 630 points for 12 nites at SSR in a 2 BR from 12/21-1/2/14. I have told her it will be VERY CROWDED. She says at least it won't be hot!!! I have not done Christmas at DW since 1990. I know better,,,but,it is for the grand kids!!!
In other words, I have banked and borrowed many times. After this trip, I will only have 10-2014 points left. I have worked with the same 210 points for 7 or 8 trips since 2005 when we joined. One trip was only 4 nites. All of the rest have been at least a week. I do like off season the best for point value, but I just go with the flow!!!
We are older now, so we rent different places in the winter for 2-3 mos, and will do Disney in 2015 again.
Enjoy your points, and bank, borrow, or add on to your hearts content. Be happy, enjoy your lives and do not fret over banking and borrowing!!!

I'm in a permanent state of borrowing too. :woohoo: Borrowing allowed us a mega fantastic 12 day THV/AKV trip this past October.

This thread makes me feel like a Loser !!! LOL I have 2012 points i'm using this November with over 250 points left for UY 2013...Nope, change that to Big Loser !!!

If you are a loser, than I am one too. We are using 2012 points this November too. But we will need some of our 2013 ones as well. So I won't have as many left as you....

I am always borrowing points too, and we just bought additional points in order to get a 1 bedroom villa for our stay next January... We just couldn't bring ourselves to stay in a studio after staying in a 1 bedroom the last 2 trips. DVC points are like potato chips... There are never enough. Haha. I would like to buy another 100 points in the next year or so to bring us up to 250 per year.

It's hard to go back to a smaller size once you have stayed in a larger one. So far, we have been in a two bedroom every time. We have 200 points. Bought in thinking it would be enough for our family of five for a one bedroom at AkV. But so far, we haven't tried one yet.

I hear ya! We originally bought enough for a studio when it was just me and my husband, but the first time we went it was just after I had my first baby and we had 2 years of points to use so we got a 1 bedroom and it has been that way ever since. The next time we go my daughter will be only 2. I want to get enough points to be able to get a 2 bedroom for when we are done having kids so they can have one room and we get the master.

Oh yes, all borrowed out over here! I just used all of my 2013 and 2014 points to book my fall trip - I think I have about 15 or 20 2014 points left.

In 2014, I'm planning a trip to DL, followed by 5 nights in May as WDW - I will have to pay cash for one of them to have enough pts for a week in September! I've only owned DVC for 6 months...I can definitely see the need for more points in my future when I have a few kiddos!!

As a "best practice" we try to avoid borrowing points as much as possible. We do borrow, but only for big trips, like the Panama Canal cruise this May. We have had to add-on three times to get to the point where we feel we have enough points to be able to do at least one trip, something really nice every year, plus something else small like a short cruise or a long weekend at WDW. Right now, I am not sure that we could really use more points. we are not struggling to use them, but we are definitely not banking or borrowing a lot either. I am sure if we had them we would use them, but at a certain point, the cost really outweighs the value, for us anyway. We would like to do an Adventures by Disney trip, but those trips really eat points in a hurry. If we had to borrow all the time, we would be in a position where we couldn't do the big trips because all of the points are already borrowed, and we absolutely could not stand to skip a year and do nothing. My one and only regret is that we didn't buy the number of points that we have now, 500, back in 1999 when we bought the first 162 at $68 dollars a point, we could have saved thousands of dollars.

Similar situation, we had an extra set of points when we first bought in which gave us enough for a 2 bd plus points to spare for 4 years, then we skipped one year and now have extra points again! It is very nice to have the spare bedroom for kids!

The only time I banked was when we first bought our re-sale contract and had the seller bank them so we wouldn't lose them. That said, I haven't hit 2014 points yet (March UY) but did get a couple of transfers from other members in the last couple of years which I hope will postphone addonitus. :rotfl2:

I have borrowed for every trip we have taken. We are every other year visitors (3 or 4 families each trip). Borrowing is a GREAT thing.

:rotfl2: You are not losers, LOL. All of these borrowers should be very, very, VERY grateful to you! Without bankers, there could be no borrowers!! :)

And without borrowers, there could be no bankers, either. We need each other! No losers here, LOL.

We do both - bank and borrow so that we can do three trips in a two year period.

There was a 2 year period where I didn't borrow but only because a freind gave me 2 weeks of her RCI because she couldn't use it - bank a year of points not have to borrow for 2 years - not a bad deal and we did a couple of really nice long trips those 2 years.:goodvibes

Now I'm back into borrow mode and severe case of add-on-itis.

I just feel fortunate that I get to go to Disney every year - I'll just keep on juggling:goodvibes.

There is some great advice on this thread. I think we will probably be bank and borrow type of folks and try to combine trips into one year and then skip years to refill the account.
