Born Again Christians Thread-No Bashing please

Watching the human drama, sadness, heroics, blunders,
and yes the evil influence since Katrina made landfall
has shown me much more than "human nature"
or the results of that evil influence.
It's spoken to me deeply that if we think this was bad
- and it was - how much more terrible will it be for those that are left behind.
I think of the children, particularly. God have mercy!
The despicable things that were done to some,
the fear & trauma they will live with for the rest of their lives,
the young babies and children that died in horrible conditions,
the mothers and fathers who were drawn to desperate measures
to protect their children - and that was in response to one event,
causing only one other event (Katrina, then the levees failing).
Not to mention that it was "only" one week compared to three years!

I shudder now when I think of the comparison,
how most of this nation and others around the world
watched in horror at what was shown, how seasoned reporters reacted, etc.
Can any of us imagine what the entire world will be like after
that first week of the Tribulation?
After the first month? The first year?

Sorry to ramble, but it's been on my mind for a day or two.

You know, I didn't even think about that! You're right. It will be sooo much worse! And how scary! My heart breaks for those that will have to endure that! If only everyone knew Christ and didn't have to go through anything as terrible as the tribulation but that will never happen unfortunately.

Those things have been weighing heavily on my mind as well. Our pastor has said many times that when we come to a point were it doesn't trouble us in our spirit for those souls that are lost, knowing what they will one day face, we are in very serious spiritual trouble.

My heart breaks for those and with each new day I think, Lord, you've given them one more day, please let today be the day they come to know you.

I too have been thinking about the signs of the end times and the tribulation. Our current sermon series at church is about the end times and the second coming, so it’s definitely been relevant to current events. Our pastor described the peaks and valleys that will occur in terms of horrible events (wars, rumors of wars, earthquakes, etc.) like labor pains. The times between them will become shorter and shorter as the Lord’s return approaches. I can’t even imagine what it will be like. And that’s not even mentioning the tribulation! My heart breaks for those that don’t know Him. At the same time it’s comforting to know that He is in control though.

They have an endless, exhausting job, and need to know they are appreciated. Even a simple card will do!

thank you. i will have to drop by more, i saw this thread a when i joined just never really had time to post. we had revival meetings at our schools church so i went i few days to that, it was really enlightning, anyone else like reviavals?

- especially when they are multi-denominational.
When many evangelical churches of different "stripes"
come together simply to praise God and worship the Son,
it is a glimpse of Heaven!

I agree with everything you said! I enjoy revivals, as well as Christian concert festivals, etc. anything where there is a passionate lifting of the Lord's name in praise. I think we need an occassional reminder of how great the Lord is and how we are all a little part of a very big church.

BTW, has anyone else been humbled by the recent hurricanes? I know looking around at all the trappings of the world in my house, and thinking how transitory it all is, and how quickly it could all be gone, has brought me to some real, and much needed, thought about how critical it is to focus on the eternal things. What do you think?

We evacuated for 3 hurricanes last year. I found that when I was packing up our things to take with us, and trying to take the stuff that was most important to us, that I discovered the material stuff was not that important. It was actually kind of a strange feeling. The only thing I took were survival items (food, batteries, flashlights, etc), important documents, clothes/personal hygiene items, medication, and my bible.

Yes, it definitely makes you think about what is important in life which is really people--people and their souls.

If you folks don’t mind, I’d like to ask for some prayers. My husband is likely going to lose his job. He is an assistant branch manager for a bank, and he failed to put a hold on a check that was later determined to be fraud. He knew the customer, and they were victims of fraud not perpetrators, but technically he didn’t follow procedure. He is exceptional at his job, so this is really a shame. Having lost my job due to downsizing last year for 3 months, I know it’s hard. I also know that God will provide for us and that we need to trust Him. My heart just breaks for Colin as I know he takes so much pride in doing his job so well. There is a small chance that he could keep his job and be on probation, but it doesn’t look likely due to the amount of the fraud loss. Basically we’re praying that he is allowed to resign instead of being terminated. On a happier note, it looks like a job in technology sales (what he thinks he really wants to do career-wise) might open up in a couple of weeks. He had interviewed for the position several months ago, but it wasn’t available then. So that’s something we’re hopeful for if it’s where God wants him to be. This is just hard. I feel so many emotions—sadness, upset because I dread the financial stress that goes along with job loss, and yet thankful that I have a family that will look after us no matter what financial issues we encounter. We remain blessed, this is just a bump in our road. Please remember us in your prayers if you don’t mind.

I was just thinking the same thing. Maybe that other position will happen for him. That would be a nice ending to such a sad turn of events. I will pray that all goes well for you and your dh and that this is really an opportunity in disguise.

I am so thankful for you that you have your family to help!
That is a HUGE blessing - I only wish my family would
even let me talk about our difficulties.
What I get is, "I don't want to hear about it."
And I'm not asking for anything but an ear and some advice!
Sorry, this shouldn't be about me, but I was rejoicing
in my heart when I read that line in your post.
I really hope your DH can resign, and that the Lord doesn't
tarry in His response and direction.

Elisabeth, We will be praying for you and your DH. One thing I have heard often is that when God closes one door He opens another. Just trust in Him and everything will work out. I know this can be a scary, hard time.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I just said one for you just now.

No matter what, the hardest but most important thing to remember is that God has His plans. I remember I loved the job I was once in. The supervisor really had issues on my success (go figure). He was the only one in our entire territory, getting all the praise, then I showed up, did some nice work as well and started sharing some glory. He did not like that at all. I ended up resigning knowing that he would do everything he could to make my job horrible. The travel had also increased enormously. I decided to resign, and let God work His powers. And boy did He! I am now in a wonderful company, loving everyday I do my job (I actually don't even like calling it a job I love it so much!).

Whatever God has planned for your hubby, I am certain it is even better that what he is experiencing today. I will continue to pray that he keeps his job, and that God will reveal what He wants your hubby to do. I will continue to pray that God's will be done. Much love and hugs to you both.
