well, if its the christian right, then its coming from christians rather than non christians. let us remember, the christian right are still good christians. none of us has the right to judge who is fit to be christian and who is not. nor is it our purview to judge who is a good christian and who is not, that s Gods domain, that said perhaps we should move on from this topic. has anyone read any good books lately??

Right now I am reading The Life God Blesses by Jim Cymbala. Finished Aaron's Way a month or so ago....it is about the journey with a strong willed child (very encouraging as I have two :teeth: )

I just finished The Revelation by Beverly Lewis. I find her books on the Amish life to be very interesting. The Amish are such a strong religion, with so many laws and rules that need to be followed. I would love to go and stay with a traditional Amish family for a week and experience their way of life. I can't imagine living with no electricity!!
Has anyone ever had experiences with the Amish?

I have just finshed reading Silent No More by Rod Parsley and am reading Healed without scars by David G Evans.

Just curious, how many people use the term "Born Again" to describe themselves in real life? I only have ever used it here on the DIS boards. I fit into the definition of "born again" but it is not a term I use, or I hear anyone at my church use. We just call ourselves Christians.

I also do not use the term "Born Again" to describe myself in real life. I am just a plain old Christian. ;) We do talk about being born again when talking about scripture or when talking to others about what it takes to be a Christian.

So do we.

Ohhh jeez,

Yep, another anti-Christian, using anything they can (the homosexuality issue) to denigrate and attack Christianity. Believe me, cardaway, and others, are not just "asking questions".... They are on the offensive here.

Believe me, I am also reading what is being posted on another thread.

OMG!!!! Hey everybody, let's all give up the wonderful Faith and Salvation that we have experienced!!! Let's all go hug trees and members of the same sex!!! LOL!!!! After all, that MUST be what is right.... :rotfl2:

( In other words, if you are obviously anti-Christian, and are attacking Christianity... You are definately free to do so... But, could I recommend that there is the 'Godless Heathen' thread for that purpose.)

Now see, that was down right rude.

Yeah, make no mistake about it, folks from both threads are reading both threads. If you think I was the first person to post on both you should read them again.

I've tried my best to be respectful while commenting on what I felt needed to be responded to. You can bet on the fact that if certian things were said on the heathen thread people from this thread would be posting their responses.

Ok, lets say that someone started a thread called "I work at Burger King-it rules!-anybody else? Lets talk about how great it is" So a bunch of people started talking about it. The employee benefits, the food, the uniforms. Everyone really loved their jobs. Loved Burger King. Then people came on and asked "Why do you love it there?' that is a nice, respectful question. Someone else comes on and asks other questions "how much do you get paid? vacation time?" stuff like that. All good, relevant, respectful questions. Right?

Then people start coming on and thrashing Burger King. "McDonalds rules!" "BK sucks" "you guys are stupid for thinking the way you do about BK!" "BK doesn't make hot-dogs, it sucks" "Why is BK so against Hot-Dogs?" "They think they are better then the other Fast food places!" - Not nice, respectful questions. So someone opens a new thread called "Burger King sucks-lets thrash it" So everyone can now sit and talk and talk all they want about the negatives of BK. So why do they come over to the "BK rules" thread and offend and stir the pot there?

If they have genuine questions, they are sooo welcome. If they just want to criticize and be rude, go back to the BK sucks thread....

Get what I am saying??......

(OK,maybe I am not the most imaginative illustration giver in the world ;) )

Two things.

1 - Let's not trivialize the reasons people like myself to responded on thsi thread. People posted some pretty touchy stuff about gays and their lifestyle, and from what I have seen, people responded to that and only that and kept it pretty respectful to boot. I don't recall any out of nowhere attacks like you try and imply in your BK analaogy.

2 - The same thing is being done on the other thread by - whoa - Christians - who post on this thread. It sure reads like your trying to imply it has been a one way street. Far from it.

Nobody has trivialized the reasons that you have posted here...

Actually, I merely pointed out the TRUE reason that you have posted here.
And, I am correct, am I not.....

If you don't like it, quit posting! :cool1:

(PS: I was not overtly disrespectful.... However, coming on this thread and taking pock-shots at what you call the 'religious right' is definately not respectful.... Respect is a two way street... Remember, on this thread, you are in our neighborhood.)

And, having said that, I would suggest that we ignore and starve this troll.... Otherwise, he will successfully hijack this thread.

Sorry if I offended you Cardaway. I was more referring to those that pop in, say something totally off topic and controversial, get everyone all riled up, post a few times then leave.

I was just trying to do a little funny illustration. As has been said before, we welcome questions. All sincere questions, or comments.
We just dont want the pot stirred over and over again until all the teflon is off it!

I read the other thread, but I have never posted on it. I have been tempted, but I knew I would not be welcome there, so I didnt. I hated reading the bashing of James Dobson. I think he is a wonderful Godly man with many great parenting ideas, great books, and has a great ministry in Focus on the Family. I watched people on the other board say many, many things that were untrue about him and his ideals on spanking, to name one thing. I really wanted to defend him, but I didnt. I knew it would not be welcome, and I would just be attacked personally.

I just want us all to get along. We all have our own beliefs, and we need to respect each other, and agree to disagree sometimes.

Though I don't know how one can look around at rainbows, babies, butterflies and waterfalls and not believe in God..... :cloud9:

That's your choice, but people from this thread did challenge other things there, asked questions, and were not flamed.

But one can believe in a higher power and not be a Christian. :cloud9:

Actually we are all in Pete's neighborhood.

If I was out of line report my post to a mod. Otherwise please stop with the mind reading (don't pretend to know my intentions) and name calling (troll? :confused3 ).

One of the best things about this thread is that it has helped to evaporate the myth that all Born Again Christians are members of the religious right. There is greater diversity in beliefs among conservative Christians than most people realize. I think that the exposure of diversity among supposedly "single minded" groups is a good thing.

I'm not attacking christianity but questioning intolerance. I don't see how it can be justified under any law, either god's or man's.

AlbertanMom, there are many people of faith who post on the "Godless Heathens" thread. As with any thread on the DIS, your comments would be welcome. If you see a conversation that you would like to join, I hope that you will not hesitate to post your thoughts.

cardaway, I understand why you feel so strongly about the issue of homosexuality. I’m not just saying that either—I really do. While we may not agree about the sin aspect, I think we all agree that *everyone* should be treated with respect and kindness. Perhaps we’re not all that different than you think, despite our opposing viewpoints. I just attended a baby shower for a co-worker friend of mine who is adopting a baby along with her partner. Despite the fact that we may not feel the same about many issues, we are still friends, and I respect her greatly. I think that Christians and non-Christians can do the same.

I agree.

I also didn't throw out the "Christian right" as a slam agianst the people here. It's the people who identify themselves that way and have made gay issues part of their platform.
