Hey guys...just popping my head in...seeing what is going on...I posted here and there...

What are we discussing??

Well, some have posted the last couple of days
about what they'd like at their funerals/services.
What song is especially important to them
and how the gospel needs to be given.
And we've been praying for live4christp1...

ImHall2000, I really appreciated your testimony!

Hey all
We went to see Sky High the other night, it was really cute. The language was good, themes good, very appropriate for our kids, we really enjoyed it.

On the previews, they showed the preview for the Chronicles of Narnia, Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe coming out in the late fall. My daughter is very excited to see it, as they studied that book last year in grade 4. I was wondering if anyone elses kids took that in grade 4 as part of their cirriculum?
:dog:

I'm glad you enjoyed Sky High! I've been wanting to see that too, my own children are a bit to young to enjoy anything that's not a cartoon, but I LOVE kid's movies! I'm thinking of renting Ice Princess from Blockbuster tonight!

I love kid's movies too! Some of the DVD's we have people assume we bought for our son, but they are actually movies I owned before he was born.
The Princess Diaries movies were really good.

At least with kids movies (most of them!!) you know you aren't going to see pre-marital sex, profanity, etc... (though Hollywood is really pushing the envelope on that!!)
One of my sons favorite movies is Cheaper by the Dozen. The only bad thing on there is that the oldest daughter and her boyfriend live together, and sleep in the same bed at the parents house. It is good when the parents criticize them for their way of life though.
We also really enjoyed the Princess Diaries, Olsen twins movies, The Cinderella Story, Ella Enchanted, The Emperors New Groove, The Incredibles, The Pacifier, Thunderbirds and many more!

Was The Pacifier really a good movie? DH and I keep looking at this in blockbuster and just have this feeling it is some bad acting. If it really is good, this may be on our next weekend list.

Well, Vin was the typical big-muscled monotone actor in lots of it. He had lots of good parts too. Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls) was in it, and I really like her. My kids really liked it. I heard lots of bad reviews on it, but I liked it too. Enough to spend $24.98 on it!!

It had a good theme, family sticking together. Funny parts. But some violence that might be too scary for under 6 years old or so (DS7 liked it-dressed in jeans and a white t-shirt for days, proclaiming he was going to be in the CIA when he grew up and learn martial arts!!)

All in all-we liked it enough to buy it!

our dd goes to a christian private school nad they have used lion, witch and wardrobe in two grades so far. and last year for a field trip they went to production of the magicians nephew by the children's theatre. we are so looking forward to the movie. iwas a little apprehensive when i first heard that disney was a partner. i thought that they could handle the quality part of it, but wasn't sure about them meddling with the content, if it requires the message being watered down then what good is it? but maybe that will be the legacy of mel gibson and the passion hollywood will see that they don't have to fear christian messages in film.

i have been so impressed by the things i have seen so far from the film and love the website, even downloaded wallpapers for our two computers. then when i saw the trailer at the theater, i almost got misty-eyed.

Good Morning All,

I want to share with you something that happened at our church that has made me angry, sad and proud.

Very ealry last Monday morning, some group vandalised the sign in front of our Church. I do not wish to repeat exactly what they wrote, but on one side of the sign they wrote "Gode hates" black people (N word was used here) and gay people (again, another word used here). The other side of the was too repunant to paraphrase, but it was another slur against blacks and was of a white supremisist nature.

Thankfully, our church had the grafitti removed within half and hour of finding it, but by then, it had been read by many people on their way to work. The police have since notified us that many other churches were tagged in a similar fashion that night.

Our first response was sadness and anger. You almost never see racism and bigotry where I live, and its easy to beleive that it doesn't exist. It made us deeply sad to find that this uglyness is still very much with us, and angry that we had been used to promote a message of hatred. But that is not where the story ends.

Every Sunday, just before the offering, we devote a section of our service to explaining where and how the money that is given is used. We call it "Our Mission and Ministry Together". The idea is to show people how the money people give is changing lives. Well, yesterday, our minister stood before the congregation and said he could not do the Our Ministry Together Section, because he needed to appologize.

He explained about the vandalism (most folks had not heard of it yet) and the he said that the main thrust of our mission was to spread God's love and, given the hate that was spewed on our sign, we clearly had failed locally. He said that as our leader, he felt he should own that failure. He asked us to pray for those who vandalized us, that they may be free of their hatred and know the love that is so freely offered to them, and he asked us to pray for the victims of this hate. He also said that he need to concentrate more on a local level on dealing with this. Most importantly, he called upon us to forgive those who had done this to us.

At that point, our board chair stood up and announced that he would not accept the appology, because all of us were the church and all of us were responsible. Again, it was asked we pray for those who vandalized us and the victims of their hate. He made it very clear that it was not going to stop there though, and that the church must find a way to futher take positive, tangible meaningful action to cure this rift in our society on a local level.

This morning, I am proud of our church. Someone valdalized us and tried to spread hate and anger. In the end though, we responded as God called us to do. We forgave the vandals, we will pray that they find a way clear of their hate and we WILL find a way to reach out to them and their victims. If you answer hate with love, love will win, every time.

Hound, thank you for sharing that story. It really hits ya when you realize how much prejudice and hatred is out there. The last week on this very board I read some very prejudicial posts that have hurt me to my core. I was literally up one night just fixating on it. Anyway, enough about me. ;) I think it's great that your church is reacting in love. I think sometimes we do forget a LOCAL focus, we get caught up in ministry in other countries, or other domestic areas of need. I will be praying that your church finds the way to address this problem locally.

WDWHOUND - What a testimony your church will be. So sorry that this had to happen at all. It saddens me when any group says that God hates......and fills in the blank however they see fit, the Bible says that God loves us and that He is not willing that any should perish. That love isn't extended to just any one group but to everyone.

Will be praying for your church and the ministry there.

WDWHound I.m sorry for what happened to your church. As we get closer to the end times this is happening more and more! The church is God's light shinning in the darkness and many hate God and want to spread darkness.
Matthew 5 talks about letting our light shine and that those of us who do may face persecution. I pray for your outreach to the community and that many will see the ligh through your action. Those who wanted a negative reaction will be disappointed and God will be honored!

WDWHound, I’m sorry about the vandalism that occurred at your church. I think you have every right to be proud about how your church handled it though. Responding to hatred with love is truly Christ-centered. Perhaps your church could even do some type of local outreach in your community as a love offering to the community.

I’ve always liked the way that our church refers to mission areas: Jerusalem, Judea, and the uttermost parts. Jerusalem is our immediate community/area, Judea is our general area (like the southern US), and the uttermost parts is everything else, both domestic and international. Often I think it’s easy to focus only on international missions, but domestic missions can be just as impactful. God’s Word never returns void, be it here in the US or in a remote tribal area in Africa.

AuntieM03 - I haven't seen you post on this thread in a while but in case you are still reading I just wanted to tell you that they played Ocean Floor on the radio as I drove into work and I thought of you.

Elisabeth - Thought of you yesterday as we were in Atlanta and you are from down in that area.

Does anyone else do that? Were you remember something about someone and each time you see or hear that it brings that person to mind? I always take it as a prompting to pray for someone.

Hope everyone else here is well. Not many posting any more. What happened to everyone? Haven't seen dcentity2000 on here in a while.

Thanks for thinking of me :goodvibes

I have been lurking on this board alot, I learn so much from all of you.

BeBe Winans was at our church yesterday (he is a friend of our pastor's son). He sang a few songs, including Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus. He also shared about his brothers death in June. He sang a really beautiful song that he dedicated to his brother. I cannot remember what it was called, but it basically was saying that his brother is safe at home.

I don't know if anyone has seen the TV show Balanced Living, but that is the church I attend.

Hope everyone has a great day!!

WDWhound, so sorry that happened at your church,
but praise God for His Spirit, it was so evident in your post
that His Presence was so real on Sunday.
What was intended for evil will be used for good.

AuntiMo3, what a treat to have BeBe Winans sing
and lead some worship! I'm sure it was also a blessing
to him to worship and think about his brother with
people who love him.

liv4christP1, I'm still here!
I'm sure many others are still lurking from time to time,
including dcentity - he usually only posts when it's
really relevant to him, I've noticed. But he always brings
something interesting to the pot!

I was wondering how many out there like
Bluegrass - specifically Bluegrass Gospel?
One station we listen to has a Bluegrass Gospel
show every Sunday night, and we love to listen.

Hound, thank you for sharing that story. I was really really touched by it.

I have not been around too much as I was helping with VBS at our church this last week. We had 350 kids come through our doors to participate--how awesome is that??? It was such an amazing experience and I feel like I ended up being so blessed when here I thought I was going just to work and minister to the kids. Really an awe inspiring experience.

We are still working through our issues with the sitter at the Bible study I am in. Things go up and down but basically I have determined that DD is not over reacting--this girl is a snot to her. We have three more weeks to go and DD has only had to be with this particular sitter once since she brought up her concerns to me. This week the girl won't be there and the next two weeks she will either bring her own stuff to do and go into a classroom near me on her own or she will go play at a friend's house. This study has been a huge blessing to me spiritually so I am really glad to have stayed with it. I am really developing some strong friendships with the other women in the group so that is a blessing too.

Well, it's late, but I wanted to check in. Take care all. Oh, and if you don't get over there much, there is an interesting discussion on the budget board about tithing going on right now.
